Grace Paterson

I am a philosopher of Language, Social Ontology, and Action. I work on conceptual, metaphysical, and ethical dimensions of speech acts. Much of my works examines speech acts that are non-ideal in various ways such as those involving collective or institutional actors, intermediaries, or anonymous/pseudonymous speakers.

I received my PhD from Stanford University in 2018 under the supervision of Ken Taylor, after which I was a postdoctoral researcher in Vienna, Austria for several years. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Innland Norway Unversity of Applied Sciences in Lillehammer Norway where I am part of the project "Perceiving Voice and Speaker" headed by Anna Drożdżowicz. As part of this project I am developing an account of (good) listening that dovetails with speech act theory.
