Course and Responsibilities
The first-grade curriculum focused on seasonal changes in the oak savanna. Over the three classroom lessons, students learned the seasonal characteristics of the Oregon White Oak, black-tail deer, turkey vultures and western gray squirrels. Students got to discover the wonder and science of ecosystems, learning about human-nature relationships. The information the students learned in the classroom transferred over to the field trips where students got to see evidence of seasonal changes, highlighting characteristics of the spring season in the oak savanna. To achieve growth and understanding with the students learning, students participated in writing in nature journals, and arts and crafts, observing infographics, and being read stories aloud. My role in the Wild Wanderers 1st grade team included scanning nature journals to keep as data, stringing and writing names on wood cookies for field trips, editing our curriculum as we approached changes, and taking photographs of my teammates to capture facilitation.
