Title: “Constraints to Firm Transition in the Indian Manufacturing Sector

Supervisor: Dr Rajesh Raj S N (Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Sikkim University, India)

My PhD research involves understanding the lack of transition of small firms in the Indian manufacturing sector and investigates productivity and wage implications for such transitions. Specifically, I examine the significance of access to finance, infrastructure, and labour regulations in explaining the transition of small firms. The study highlights the significant role of access to finance, infrastructure, and labour regulations in facilitating small firm transitions. The findings also indicate that these transitions lead to improvements in labor productivity and wages, suggesting that the transition of small firms can enhance the aggregate productivity of the manufacturing sector and improve the living standards of workers and entrepreneurs within these firms.
