Asus CX9 Chromebook : Example
The above screenshot of my chromebook includes the Home page from this site showing the four Desks [Daily, Tips, Research and Bugs] at the top of the screen. They are encircled with a yellow line to highlight the "Desk" buttons used to simply switch between the seperate Desk environments by clicking them.
The other 3 areas of the screen that have been highlighted [using red circles] are for :-
an example 'tab' to the left [in this case containing the GrabADesk web page],
the 'Application Launcher for Drive' which is the multi-coloured cube shape near the middle
the finally 'Reading list' to the very right - this has since been included in the "Side Panel" facility introduced to the Chrome browser.
Additional features worth pointing out are :-
A series of icons, shown to the right of the Application Launcher, that provide access to several extensions installed in the browser.
Beneath these you have the Bookmarks Bar [see HowToGeek page] covering the whole width of the window. This can contain a mixture of individual bookmarks, and multiple bookmarks {grouped in folders} that provide quick access to favourite bookmarks.
Just below the Desk icons you can see any open tabs. The '+' sign that appears to the right of the last active tab [in this case for this site] is always shown at the right hand end of all open tabs - when pressed it is activated to display whatever has been configured, in this case the New Tab for Google Workspace page which is referred to in the list of Browser Components on the Consider These page.
See this video clip of a Cloudready desktop [pre chromeOS Flex] that is stored up at the Loom website.
When it loads you need to click the wee white triangle to start playback.
It doesn't last long but starts off displaying the "Demo"Desk, of the two active Desks "Demo" & "Regular", both of which are accessible by clicking either of the buttons at the top.
You will then see the cursor move and select each of these Desks in turn, pointing to the two active windows at either side of "Regular" Desk.
Upon return to the "Demo" Desk you will see the cursor move over the "Application Launcher for Drive" where it opens a drop down box to show not only a selection of standard Google icons that I've selected for it to display, but also two green custom icons I've created and added at the top that are handy for quick access [like using bookmarks] to a couple of my Google Sheets stored in Drive.
Finally the cursor moves over the the "Reading list" at the right hand end of the Bookmarks Bar which when clicked displays a list of a few sites that I have added for reading later.

Early tests of the "Desks" facilities were done with a number of potential suggestions created on the Chrome Bookmarks Bar.
These were in a high level group called "D's" and the sub groups created within it were simply there to hold some test scenarios.
There was MEET that contained the Google MEET page, the NEWS document and a link to SPOTLIGHT which is a page within the All4Weds Site.
Then MORNING for Hungersite, Wordle and Gmail etc.
Then TODO for Calendar, Keep and Tasks
Then a link to DESKS : How in the MySharedMaterial Site
