Winsted is important to me because it's where I live and where I grew up. The college I work for, Northwestern Connecticut Community College, is supportive of the mission and once it moves out of my basement we may start working at a space there. The Little Red Barn has been collecting laptops for us, and we've been donating them through Greenwoods. All told, this wouldn't work without my little town and all of the folks in it who have helped it along.
What we do here:
a) Get donated laptops, from LRB or folks from facebook marketplace or craigslist.
b) Wipe them with a Linux install disk, or reset them back to factory settings, as we diagnose any issues. For now, this happens in my basement, back porch, garage, or dining room table.
c) Log them into the database so we know who to have our recipients thank
d) When they are ready for delivery, see if anyone has indicated need on the website, and otherwise wait for the need for one to arise.
