Five (5) days of Skill Development Workshop on "GPU Computing for Computational Fluid Dynamics" is being organized at Indian Institute of Technology, Dharwad, Karnataka from 08-12-2025 to 12-12-2025. This workshop is coordinated by the faculty members in CFD, Mathematics and fluid-thermal sciences from the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering, IIT Dharwad, as well as School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, IIT Mandi. The Tentative Timetable has been prepared and shared below. The topics cover basic computational fluids dynamics, numerical methods, and the use of graphical processing units (GPUs) for accelerating CFD codes. Hands-on lab sessions will be organized everyday with focus on computer programming and simulations. Further, topics related to one and two-dimensional heat conduction equation, convection equation and incompressible fluid flow solvers will be discussed with finite-difference and finite-volume discretization methods. Students will learn how to use NVIDIA GPU cards to parallelize CFD codes with the use of programming modules such as CuPy, Numba CUDA and PyCUDA. The objectives of this workshop are:
Introduce and cover basics of CFD and discretizations
Introduce parallel programming using GPU cards with detailed discussion on CUDA programming environment
Hands-on programming in Python using modules such as CuPy, Numba CUDA and PyCUDA for CFD development
Lab sessions for developing codes and simulations with detailed post-processing of the results (including visualisations)
The tentative Time-Table of the CFD Workshop is given below:
