This Privacy Policy explains how iPolyglot (including iPolyglot: Learn Language AI and Language Podcasts by iPolyglot) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the app.
AI data sharing is optional and requires your explicit permission in the app. Reading this policy, using the app, or granting microphone access does not by itself grant permission to share data with AI providers.
1. Information We Collect and How We Collect It
1.1. Learning activity and preferences. The app records information from your use of its features, such as completed exercises, learning progress, vocabulary, selected native and study languages, learning level, and preferences. This information supports your learning experience, progress tracking, and app functionality.
1.2. Content you provide. When you type, select, import, record, or submit content for a feature, the app processes the relevant text, messages, conversation history, topics, vocabulary, images or image links, voice recordings, and transcribed speech. Content you provide may contain personal information. Please avoid submitting sensitive information that is unnecessary for your learning task.
1.3. Technical and diagnostic information. The app and its integrated services may automatically collect app interactions, app version, device and operating-system information, installation or device identifiers, crash reports, and diagnostic logs. These support analytics, troubleshooting, security, and reliable operation.
1.4. Google Firebase. The app uses Google Firebase for backend infrastructure, remote configuration, analytics, crash reporting, app verification, and notification services. Firebase may process technical identifiers, usage and diagnostic data, notification tokens, and the content routed through our backend for requested features.
1.5. Support requests. If you contact us, we receive your email address and any information you choose to include so that we can respond to your request.
2. How We Use and Share Information
2.1. App operation and improvement. We use information to provide learning features, save preferences and progress, personalize learning, process support requests, maintain security, diagnose failures, and understand app usage. Information is not necessarily anonymous: content you submit may identify you, and technical identifiers can distinguish an installation or device.
2.2. OpenAI — text, images, and learning feedback. With your AI-sharing permission, OpenAI receives the information relevant to the requested feature: messages and relevant conversation history; text, words, topics, images or image links you submit; native and study languages and learning level; and aggregate learning statistics for progress insights. OpenAI uses these inputs to produce AI conversations, translations, explanations, image analysis, lessons, podcast scripts, and learning feedback.
2.3. OpenAI — speech and transcription. For AI speech generation, OpenAI receives the text to be read, voice selection, language, and speech instructions. For AI transcription, OpenAI receives your recorded audio, language, and any relevant transcription context. Generated reading audio may also be sent to OpenAI to align words with playback timing, including audio initially generated by Google Gemini.
2.4. Google Gemini and Firebase. When you select Gemini for speech generation, Google receives the text to be read, voice selection, and speech instructions. Google Firebase hosts our backend and routes requests to OpenAI, and provides the connection to Gemini. Requests also include technical information needed to authenticate, secure, and operate the services. The app sends the information needed for the particular feature, rather than every category listed above in every request.
2.5. Your permission before AI sharing. Before sending content to these AI services, the app presents an AI Data Sharing disclosure identifying the recipients, data, and purposes, with Allow AI Data Sharing and Don’t Allow choices. AI requests are blocked unless you explicitly allow sharing. Microphone, photo, or notification permissions are separate and do not grant AI-sharing permission.
2.6. Declining or withdrawing permission. You may decline and continue using features that do not require AI. Review or change your choice at Settings → About → AI Data Sharing. Turning sharing off prevents new AI requests. It does not recall requests already sent or automatically erase data already processed. For deletion requests, contact us using the details below. A materially changed AI-sharing disclosure will require a new choice.
2.7. Other service providers. Google Firebase processes infrastructure, analytics, diagnostic, security, and notification information as described above. We do not sell your personal data.
2.8. Third-party protection. We require third parties receiving personal data to provide the same or equal protection as described in this Privacy Policy, including appropriate safeguards and limits on permitted use. Their applicable service terms and data-processing commitments govern their processing alongside this policy. Provider retention and processing depend on the service and configuration; we do not promise that every request is immediately deleted, anonymous, or excluded from all retention.

3. Retention, Security, and Your Choices
Learning content and preferences stored on your device remain until you remove them using available app controls or delete the app, subject to any device backups you maintain. Removing local content does not automatically delete data already sent to service providers.
Information processed by our backend or providers may be retained for service delivery, security, troubleshooting, and applicable legal obligations. Retention varies by data category and service. Contact us for information about the retention or deletion of data associated with your use of the app.
We use encrypted connections for AI requests and technical safeguards intended to protect information. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Providers may process information in countries other than your own under their applicable data-protection terms.
You can withdraw AI-sharing permission in the app and manage microphone, photo, and notification permissions in iOS Settings. Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information. Send requests to the contact address below. We may need information sufficient to identify the relevant data and verify your request; do not email passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.
4. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as the app or its services change. We will make the revised policy available through the app’s Privacy Policy link and provide notice of material changes as appropriate. If an AI-sharing change requires renewed permission, the app will ask before sending data under the updated disclosure.
