GPT Gopher is a Chrome extension designed to help users inspect ChatGPT's web retrieval activity, including search queries, retrieved sources, supporting websites, citations, and related network activity.
GPT Gopher processes data locally within the user's browser when the user explicitly starts a capture.
During a capture, GPT Gopher may process:
ChatGPT conversation content associated with the active session
Network requests and responses generated by ChatGPT
Retrieved website URLs and source information
Citations and supporting sources
Retrieval and search activity associated with the response
This information is used solely to provide GPT Gopher's retrieval-trace functionality.
Captured trace information is stored locally in the user's browser using Chrome's local extension storage.
GPT Gopher does not operate a remote database and does not transmit captured prompts, conversations, retrieval traces, or browsing information to the developer or third-party servers.
Users can clear captured information from within the extension or by removing the extension.
GPT Gopher does not sell user data.
GPT Gopher does not transfer user data to third parties for advertising, marketing, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or purposes unrelated to the extension's stated functionality.
GPT Gopher does not continuously monitor browsing activity.
Network monitoring occurs only on the active tab when the user explicitly initiates a GPT Gopher capture.
GPT Gopher requests only the Chrome permissions required to provide its functionality.
These permissions may include:
debugger — to inspect network activity associated with a user-initiated ChatGPT retrieval trace
activeTab — to access the tab on which the user starts a capture
storage — to store captured trace information locally
alarms — to manage capture timing and automatic capture completion
GPT Gopher does not download or execute remotely hosted code. All executable code required by the extension is packaged with the extension.
