Greenwich Parents & Carers (GPC) Community Interest Company (CIC) is a volunteer-run community for parents and carers of babies and young children living in and local to Greenwich, London. Founded in 2021, we bring families together to connect, share information, and support one another through the early years of parenthood. We create welcoming spaces - both online and in person - to talk about baby and child-related topics, exchange local knowledge, and organise meetups and family-friendly events. Our aim is to build a strong, supportive community that celebrates families and supports local businesses. We value inclusivity, kindness and connection.
Our journey so far: In 2021, as the UK was still navigating the Covid-19 pandemic, our founder Aster had just moved to Greenwich and was expecting her second baby. With no family or friends nearby, she began hosting weekly meetups to connect with other expectant parents. What started as a small gathering at Davy’s Wine Bar soon moved outdoors to Greenwich Park and the Maritime Museum as the group grew. As babies were born, the community expanded - connected through a lively WhatsApp group and supported by a team of volunteer admins. Today, we have nearly 1,800 members and a range of peer-support groups, including Medical FAQs, SEND, Schools and Freecycle.
We remain proudly community-led, supporting members to organise activities and events. In 2024, we hosted our first Summer Fair at St Alfege Community Hall, bringing together families with children aged 0–5 and showcasing local businesses. The event attracted over 500 attendees and dozens of local traders and performers. Following its success, we became a Community Interest Company, enabling us to run events more effectively. Since then, we’ve delivered another Summer Fair and a sold-out Christmas Fair in 2025, launched a monthly Mums in Business & Work networking group, a free weekly What’s On Guide, and our website. We’ve also supported wider initiatives, including the DadShift Paternity Leave campaign and a donation drive for the Lewisham Toy Library.

Our Founder - Aster Thackery
Aster loves meeting people and bringing people together. Originally from New Zealand, she moved to London 13 years ago. She lives in Greenwich with her husband and their two kids. Recognising that people often find it difficult to make meaningful connections in London, Aster has sought to create spaces and opportunities that encourage connections to happen. She is constantly awed by the talent that is present in the community. When she is not doing admin tasks, she is working in foreign direct investment and economic development. Aster is a feminist and women's rights advocate.
