About Me
Interests and Miscellaneous
I enjoy math riddles and puzzles. I send the math grad students a biweekly email reminding them about Banach Barski (happy hour) and I usually include a riddle/puzzle. There is a long tradition of having fun Banach emails each week.
I enjoy lots of different types of games, including card games, board games, and puzzle and management/idle video games. Recently I've played a fair bit of Crew (the card game) and a Minesweeper-based video game called Bombe (on Steam).
I've also always had fun with sports. At various points in my life, and at various levels of competitiveness, I've played soccer, (ice) hockey, rugby, football, softball, baseball, ultimate frisbee, and spikeball. I cheer for the Cowboys (NFL), Blue Jays (MLB), Padres (MLB), and Senators (NHL).
I love tasting and making new foods and drinks. Last year I learned how to make sourdough bread from scratch (modulo making my own starter). I also recently learned about hatch chiles and red/green sauces, which are New Mexican delicacies.
In my spare time I enjoy watching video essays about various topics including history, law, economics, politics, geopolitics, geography, and current affairs. A few YouTube channels I especially enjoy right now are Historia Civilis, LegalEagle and RealLifeLore.
I'm currently studying the concept of "wisdom" with my grandfather. We're trying to answer such questions as
What is wisdom? How does it differ from knowledge and understanding?
What is foolishness?
Why is wisdom important?
How can we become wiser?
