Located at 88.52º E latitude and 27.44º N longitude and approximately 52 km from the state capital Gangtok, Mangshila Senior Secondary School is surrounded with serene and pristine environment ideal for the establishment of a knowledge center. The school is affiliated to CBSE and is a Co - educational institution.

Originally founded in the year 1979 by the elders of the village Mr Blackie Tshong and Mr Ramsher Subba as a private school for the larger benefit of the locals and the locality, today the school is a full fledged government institution with classes run till 12 and enrolment almost close to 400. The founders were also the first volunteers to have volunteered their teaching service at the school with a partial payment of Rs 200/ month which was made through contribution of all villagers. The student enrolment then was 76 .

The year 1980 became a landmark year for the institution when the Education department decided to take the school under the government flagship and then appointed Shri Bala Ram Subba as the first government appointee teacher.

As the school grew in strength, it was upgraded to a primary school in 1982. It became a Junior High School in 1985 and further in the year 1992 the school was successfully upgraded to a Secondary School affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.

With the steady progress of the school more land was required. Hence Late Shri Birkhaman Limboo and Late Shri Chakra Bahadur Limboo extended their generosity by donating land for the noble cause of supporting education and the enlightening the future of the Manghshila. It is with profound respect and reverence we remember our founder pioneer today.

In the year 2013 , the School was finally upgraded to a Senior Secondary School under Central Board of Secondary Education.
