I have been looking everywhere for the carmine goumi variety but I cant find a seller anywhere online. Do you sell any grafted plants? Id be more than happy to buy a few! If not, can I ask where you got yours? Thank you in advance!

The seed is bigger too, but goumi seeds are like nuts once you get past the fibrous husk which is also edible . The seeds are very tasty almost buttery and are high in amino acids and other good things just like nuts.

I guess the only problem if it is successful, that it would be a never ending battle cutting back all the growth from the bottom of the autumn olive, since it grows more bush-like than tree-like. Autumn Olive cuttings seem pretty easy at times, so I may try goumi cuttings next year since it has grown better for me than autumn olive.

I tried grafting goumi onto AO with out success a couple years back, topworked some AO bushes as they were budding out. I did have success with Amber ao, and got to try the fruit last season, which was quite good compared to my seedlings, larger and less tart/astringent, and yellow.

I think summer cuttings are the way to go for propagating goumi.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled robes away from children, stop using them and contact Goumi. Consumers should destroy the robes by cutting them both vertically and horizontally and disposing of them in accordance with local state recycling laws. Consumers should send an image of the destroyed recalled robes to Goumi by email at productrecall@goumikids.com. Upon receipt of the image, consumers will be issued instructions on how to receive a $48 store credit towards a replacement product. Goumi is directly contacting known consumers directly.

I haven't seen any wild goumi growing here in Japan, but then again, I haven't looked. They are a common garden plant here though. They are pretty astringent, but make a nice drink when soaked in vodka for a year.

So, what we must do is tetraploidize (if that's applicable to goumi karyotype) it, backcross to the diploid, and grow out the non-seedbearing triploid. Just as has been done with banana and some other fruit. If it works, then have vegetatively propagable sterile plants. Should have been done with Elaeagnus -- a little late now!P.S. I'm going to do just that. Does anyone know how thick the testa is?

No, although these plants both produce highly nutritious fruit, goji berries and goumi berries are not closely related. In fact, goji berry plants are in the nightshade family, while goumi berries are more closely related to roses.

Goumi berries are a POP favorite in orchard sites due to their early fruit production, shade tolerance, resilience and nitrogen-fixing capabilities. While they have a preference for well-drained soil, goumis are able to survive in dry, salty, alkaline and nutritionally poor soils. Plants need nitrogen to aid in photosynthesis and along with phosphorus and potassium, nitrogen is one of three key nutrients needed for plant growth. The goumi is able to form a symbiotic relationship with root-inhabiting bacteria actinobacterium Frankia that gather nitrogen from the atmosphere and feed it to surrounding plants, making it an excellent companion plant for a garden or food forest.

The goumi berry is a great source of vitamins A, C, E, flavonoids, fatty acids and a heart healthy antioxidant called lycopene. Some herbalists recommend the fruit can be consumed to relieve watery diarrhea and the astringent roots may be boiled in a process called decoction, for itching and foul sores.

Like a lot of nitrogen-fixing plants, goumi berries do great in fairly poor soil. In natural areas, nitrogen-fixing plants tend to be some of the first plants to show up after a disturbance like a fire or a mudslide.

We moved across town and have 4 and 5 year old goumi bushes and currant bushes at our old house. We'd like to take them with us (since we can't find any goumi to order and hubby doesn't want to spend $$ on more currants), but have never transported plants before. We would be trying to do this in the next two weeks -- there's what seems to be a final frost coming at the end of the week so I figure right after that would be the golden time to knock this out.

A few days ago I had the pleasure of tasting my first farm-grown fructus of the season, goumi berries, a new fruit for the orchard. I knew the berries were ripe from their red-orange translucent color and the ease of release from the stem. Goumi berries have an astringent tartness with the first bite (I briefly wondered whether I should be eating them), but once through the skin, the inner flesh holds a citrusy sweetness. I lingered over the oblong seed, turning it in my mouth, and sanding off the last bit of fruit with my tongue before spitting it to the ground. Goumis remind me of mulberries, and I imagine, like mulberries, goumis would be delicious in pies, sauces, and jellies.

Elaeagnus multiflora, commonly called goumi or gumi, is a deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub that typically grows in a rounded form to 6-10' tall. It is noted for producing edible bright red berry-like fruits (reminiscent of small cherries) in summer. It is native to open woodlands, thickets and wood margins in China and Japan. Young branchlets are covered with brown scales. Mature ovate leaves (to 2" long) are dark green above but silver dotted with tiny brown scales beneath. Small, apetalous, bell-shaped, silvery-white flowers (to 5/8" long) bloom in spring (April-May) with fruit appearing in summer (July). Flowers are not particularly showy, but are pleasantly fragrant. Small, one-seeded, berry-like fruits (oblong drupes to 1/2" long) ripen to a showy bright red in summer. Fruits are quite astringent and should not be eaten fresh off the shrub prior to attaining full ripeness. Fully ripe fruits are juicy, sweet and tart, and may be eaten fresh off the shrub, dried or cooked (pies or preserves).

The genus name Elaeagnus comes from the Greek words elaia meaning "olive tree" and agnos meaning "chaste" or "pure".

Specific epithet means many flowered.

These fruits are too delicate to travel distances. They have been used for medicinal purposes in their native countries. They contain vitamins C, A, and E, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. While you can enjoy the sweet-tart flavor of a freshly picked berry, there are many options to how you can cook with goumi fruit by pairing it with some sweeteners.

In a small saucepan, heat the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Add the goumi berries and cook over medium heat until the skins begin to pop, about 3 minutes. Pour through a fine mesh sieve or strainer and press the berries to get out all the juice. Discard the seeds and skins. Chill syrup until ready to use. (We found that mashing the berries before straining brought a bit of thickness and pulp to the sauce.)

Elaeagnus multiflora, the cherry elaeagnus,[1] cherry silverberry,[2] goumi, gumi, or natsugumi, is a species of Elaeagnus native to China, Korea, and Japan.

The goumi piece everyones been asking for! This tank romper is the coziest daywear for your babes. Perfect for warm weather play and cozy enough for sleep. Plus it looks so cute layered under a knit or paired with boots on chillier days.

While the heavy fruit production of 'Pippi' was impressive it did present a problem in that the fruit crop was much too large to be limited to fresh eating (even though it ripened over a period of multiple weeks). Therefore ease of processing needed to be evaluated. Upon purchasing a food mill (of a well reviewed brand) it became clear that separating the pulp from seeds and stems could easily be accomplished for all selections of goumi in the trial using the standard hand operated food mill.

For years I heard Union County Agent Robin Bridges talk about goumi berries. I thought I knew quite a few things about horticulture, but I had never heard of, nor seen a goumi berry plant. I thought he was making this plant up. Who ever heard of a goumi berry--a more unlikely name I cannot imagine. He would bring me a jar of goumi berry jelly but I am not much of a jelly eater, so others have eaten it. Finally a few years back he brought me a start of the plant. I have dutifully watered it and it has grown with no problems, but I did not see any fruit. Last year I may have had a flower or two, but no fruit. Then this spring it was covered in fragrant blooms,

Believe it or not, the plant is an elaeagnus, (Elaeagnus multiflora) related to our fall blooming landscape shrub Elaeagnus, autumn olive and Russian olive. Unlike some of its cousins, goumi is a non-invasive, non native shrub and so far, at least, does not have a bad hair day like the evergreen shrub.

I don't even know what a goumi berry or a Sweet Scarlet Goumi berry is so no worries on this! Renee, you are so sweet and diligent to research this and correct everything! all I know is this martini looks fabulous!! LOVE!

The old handle, having been separated from its hoop can now be used to transfer measurements. After doing so my next step is to take a coarse set plane and turn the goumi from a triangle shape into something closer to round.
