Artist's Statement:
I am a diverse multi-media Studio Arts Major student at MiraCosta College. I enjoy teaching art to young children at a summer camp in San Diego. The primary inspiration for my art is nature, such as found objects like feathers and driftwood, stands of aspens, patterns in the clouds, and sand, are all fascinating to me. However, in the realm of poetry and lyric writing I gravitate towards angst, longing, irony, and themes of human frailty.
This small original work of art is based on the opening line of Dante’s classic Inferno and translates in English to:
“I found me in a gloomy wood astray.” ——— Dante
Here I find the convergence of poetry and nature intermingles with mankind’s endless conundrum of feeling lost and wayward. This is what inspired me to create this inky somewhat haunting sketch.
