Presently, we have 15 dedicated volunteers who continue to work 4-5 afternoons per week to provide relevant and diverse experiences for the K-5 children at Babe James, to support literacy in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The children’s work was celebrated in the spring of 2022 with a collaborative Black History “Quilt” poster. Each student researched, reported on, and illustrated the life of an influential and inspirational Black American. The students presented their research, as well as music, art, and poetry, at a Black History Celebration with family members and members of the community.
