The Quest 1 Sunset

Today, we have some news to share about Gorilla Tag on Quest 1. With this update, players on Quest 1 will only be able to play with others using the same device, and as much as it pains us to say goodbye, after weeks of effort, we’ve had to roll back two updates to the 'Monke Blocks' update for Quest 1. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the Fall and Winter builds working as planned, the game has become too big for older hardware, and it will no longer be supported on Quest 1.

There will be no further feature/content updates for Quest 1. You will still be able to play, but without any seasonal decorations.

We know this isn’t easy to hear. The Quest 1 has been with us since the beginning, holding a special place in our hearts. It’s been there through countless games of tag, unforgettable moments with friends, and all the laughs and fun that make Gorilla Tag what it is. It feels like saying goodbye to an old friend—one who’s been by our side through so much.

We have done everything we could to keep Quest 1 part of the journey, As Gorilla Tag continues to grow, it has become clear that we cannot support it indefinitely without hindering the game. Meta also ceased providing features and fixes for this device in August 2024.

We want to make the transition as smooth as possible for those who decide to upgrade to a newer Meta device.  If you log in to your new device with the same account, all your purchases and shiny rock balances will carry over. No matter where you play next, your memories will stay with you.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for bringing Gorilla Tag to life on Quest 1. We’ll always treasure the memories made on this device and the incredible community that’s grown around it.

Grab your friends and form friendship bracelets to keep your party together in pubs without a private room 

 Ready? Tag your friends then…

 Huddle in a circle

 Pull your hands together and form a real fist by pressing both triggers and a face button

 If you're doing it right, you’ll see a visual effect 

 And ta-da, a friendship bracelet will appear on your wrist! To leave the party, pull the dangling string until your bracelet breaks.

Tip: Add more pals by repeating the gesture with 1 Monke from each party. But keep it to 10 monkes max!*,

To travel to a new map together, everyone should gather at the boundary stone until the paw print turns green.

 If the paw print is red and you go into the new map anyway, you will leave your party and travel to the new map by yourself.

Under 13? That’s okay! Parties of kids and caregivers can stay together going from map to map using friendship bracelets.

Journey back to the depths of the Dungeon Maze!    The Monkeyes are guarding a hidden treasure.... can you solve the mysteries of the maze?

The Forest is brimming with new life! The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, and the monkes are celebrating! Help pollinate the Forest and experience the joy of Spring with the Nowruz update!

Nowruz, or "new day" in Persian, is a festival that marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the rebirth of nature. It begins on the vernal equinox, when the sun crosses the equator. This year, Nowruz falls on March 20th. It is celebrated by more than 300 million people all around the world and has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions.

Love isn’t the only thing heating up the Forest! The volcano is back with an explosive return. Test your skills in a trial by fire, avoiding the lava as long as you can! 

The shop is also on fire, chalked full of love and flame themed fashion. Look sharp for Valentine’s Day to impress that special someone. The I Lava You Pack is now available for those stuck by Cupid’s Arrow!

The Crystal Caverns have opened! Return to the underground map full of new surprises and ancient secrets. Musical crystals, a rushing river, and an abandoned excavation site beneath the tree in the revamped caves!

Come make some noise with your friends as you navigate through the crystals, chase each other down the river and around the twisting caverns, and find the long buried remains of ancient creatures. With vibrant colors and connecting tunnels, this map has much to see, and much to explore.

It’s official: Gorilla Tag has launched out of early access! 

Since introduced to App Lab and Steam in 2021, Gorilla Tag has attracted a dedicated community of over 5M unique users playing, exploring, and socializing in its immersive VR world. We don’t need to tell you that though, you have been here along in this journey all playing a part in this momentous moment for the game.

Gorilla Tag is now available in the Meta Quest Store and on Steam. If you already have the game, just update it as normal.

A special Gorilla Tag launch bundle will be available for a limited time starting on December 15th. Swing in and explore all 5 of our maps… wait 5? Sorry, we actually have 6 maps now.

It's Fall in gorilla world! Halloween is (finally) over, so now it's time to warm up and fill up with some new Fall cosmetics, as well as a few new changes to the environment. It's harvest time in the Forest, and it's also looking like there's some new activity going on in the Canyons. Check it out!

Happy Halloween, Everyone!

This is one of the team's favorite holidays in the year and we want to invite you to come celebrate with us.  The spirits have come to play and have changed everything!

Explore Every Nook and Cranny

Every map has been updated to celebrate the season.  Discover hidden secrets and new routes through fields of skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, bubbling cauldrons, and giant webs stretching across the sky.  We've had a blast updating the world and can't wait for the updates to come.

Halloween = Costumes

New costume sets and items with special surprises to help you celebrate the holiday your way.  What are you looking at poor Yorick?  Did you make a new friend that you found in your web-rella?  It's friendly!  Don't set it on fire with the new demonic Deadshot slingshot.  Grab your Unicorn and ride off in a trail of sparkles.

My Balloon!

We are very excited to be releasing the balloons feature.  This is a brand new type of cosmetic that is an example for how we plan to expand on the core game mechanics in the future.  Grab it off of your back and set it free.  Bat it around and play a game of keepy-uppy.  Release them into the air and see who can shoot them down.  Get a group together and set up your own target gallery and challenge each other to see who can make the hardest shots.

TEAM BATTLE

Find some friends, get them in game, team up, and shoot them with paintballs. Join a public game, get assigned a random team, and fight for your life - your monke status demands it..

The rain system is finally in! Check it out, it should start raining sometime later today. There are also a few new cosmetics to help keep the rain off. There are also some lights in the different areas that will turn on at night to make things a little cozier.

There's also a new minigames queue! Check it out on the Queue tab on the computer, you'll be able to play with other people also looking to play minigames.

Spring is fully here! The rest of the Spring cosmetics are now in the store, and the cherry blossoms have bloomed! Check it out!

You can now, finally, hold items in your hands separately from the badge slot! You can also hold one item in each hand (except the items that already apply to both hands), and you can switch hands you're holding items with. Have fun!

The slippery surfaces have also been adjusted a bit. You have a little less directional control on fully slippery surfaces (previously, you could change your direction by about 33% every second, and now you can only do about 20%). The slippery walls in the other maps have also changed back to using some older logic for movement, but there's a new higher band on Forest that is fully slippery.

I can't believe it's been a year already, I really can't. Thanks so much to everyone who played the game, who shared it, who made cool fanart, and who ran around screaming "monke." It's been a crazy year, and I really don't have much else to say but thank you!

I've been really busy with some updates that you might have some clues about from some of the betas and leaks. I hope you'll understand that there's just a small update for the anniversary. Check out the city for a few free gifts! They'll be available for everyone to grab for a week.
