The Eastern Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri), also known as the Grauer's Gorilla is the largest living primate. These gorillas are part of the Hominidae family which includes humans.
An adult male Eastern Gorilla can be up to 460 pounds and live up to 40 years in the wild. This species resides in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and their population of 5,000 individuals is continuing to decline due to habitat loss and human interaction.
The Eastern Lowland Gorilla is one of the most intelligent species of primates and the second most endangered species of gorilla.
