I have beenriding a 2.35 tire for a while, but with a more square profile than the Goodyear Escape. The Escape has a noticeably more rounded profile than I amused to and took a few corners for me to get the feel for, but only a few. Once I began to trust the tire, I could really lay it over through the manyarcing turns on the aptly named Buffalo Creek classic: Sandy Wash.

I felt like theside knobs of the Escape were hard enough to hold a solid edge when thrown over onto the side of the tire, inspiring much confidence when railing aturn. Goodyear says it uses its proprietary rubber compounds in specific areas of each tire to improve performance.

All acronyms aside,Goodyear seems to have been successful with its compounds, as the Escape delivered impressive traction on everything from decomposed granite toslickrock. The Escape sheds mud well, and the tread wear has been even.

Undeterred, inventor Charles Goodyear finally found that, by uniformly heating sulfur- and lead-fortified rubber at a relatively low temperature, he could render the rubber melt-proof and reliable. He patented the process in 1844, licensed it to manufacturers and was ultimately hailed as a genius.

SHANGHAI, Oct. 30, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ: GT) announced today that it has completed its largest solar panel installation to date at its Pulandian manufacturing plant in Dalian, China. With more than 29,700 solar panels installed, the panels will power the plant, as well as office and warehouse buildings. The panels are estimated to reduce carbon emissions from purchased electricity by 17,000 metric tons per year over 25 years.

In 2021, to help reduce its carbon footprint, Goodyear announced its goal of transitioning its manufacturing operations and processes to all renewable energy by 2040, with a mid-term goal of 100% renewable electricity in its manufacturing operations by 2030. Investments in solar power generating technology in Goodyear's Asia Pacific region have created a generation capacity of approximately 28 megawatts of electricity. Globally, Goodyear operates onsite solar generation systems at 10 facilities, with a total capacity of 30 megawatts.

"Goodyear prides itself on our work to create a better future, and our commitment to renewable energy is an important part of that. We are increasing our use of renewable energy in our manufacturing facilities with solar installations at our plants in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand," said Nathaniel Madarang, president, Goodyear Asia Pacific. "We expect to continue to add additional onsite solar capacity in our region helping us to reach our corporate-wide 2030 and 2040 goals."

AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 4, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ: GT) unveiled a demonstration tire comprised of 90% sustainable materials. This demonstration tire has passed all applicable regulatory testing as well as Goodyear's internal testing.

In addition, after announcing the capability to demonstrate a 70% sustainable-material tire in January 2022, Goodyear, working with its supply base, plans to sell a tire with up to 70% sustainable-material content in 2023. Consumers interested in purchasing this tire can register for updates at Goodyear.com/SustainableMaterialTire.

"We continue to make progress toward our goal of introducing the first 100% sustainable-material tire in the industry by 2030," said Chris Helsel, senior vice president, Global Operations and Chief Technology Officer. "The past year was a pivotal one toward achieving this goal. We researched new technologies, identified opportunities for further collaboration and utilized our team's tenacity to not only demonstrate our capabilities to produce a 90% sustainable-material tire, but to also produce a tire with up to 70% sustainable-material content this year. Our team continues to showcase its innovation and commitment to building a better future."

The shift to sustainable materials is evident in some of Goodyear's current product lines. Today, eight product lines, and some racing tires, include soybean oil. In addition, Goodyear has more than doubled its use of RHA silica in its product lines since 2018. With the introduction of a tire with up to 70% sustainable-material content, Goodyear is demonstrating tangible commitment with in-market solutions to building a better future.

**The 90% sustainable-material tire has been developed as a demonstration tire, which means Goodyear has proven its ability to produce a consumer tire with a high-level of sustainable-material content.

Azerbaijan's ecology minister has been named to lead the United Nations' annual climate talks later this year, prompting concern from some climate activists over his former ties to the state oil company in a major oil-producing nation.

The United Nations moves the talks around the world with different regions taking turns. They're typically announced two years in advance, but the decision to hold 2024 talks in Azerbaijan came just 11 months before the negotiations are supposed to start.

Coface expects continued high oil and gas prices and a slight increase in pipeline exports to the EU to support Azeri exports in 2023. Despite the depletion of the South Caspian oil fields, a strong gas outlook should boost investment in this sector. In addition, existing hydro-electric dams will soon be joined by large-scale photovoltaic capacity. A 230 MW Emirati project near Baku and its Garadagh industrial zone received USD 114 million in support in August 2022 from the EBRD and the Asian Development Bank, among others. Furthermore, the reconstruction of Karabakh is expected to give a strong boost to the construction and infrastructure sector. Last, nestled between Kazakhstan and Georgia/Turkey in the Middle Corridor linking China and Europe, Azerbaijan is expected to continue to attract investment as an alternative transit route due to the political risk associated with the Russian route. However, despite a competitive advantage in energy, the lack of skilled labour, due to an insufficient network of technical schools, is a factor preventing the emergence of an industrial base, which the authorities are seeking. In addition, food dependence, particularly on Russian cereals, highlights the vulnerability of many households. Agriculture still employs a third of the workforce but contributes only 7% to GDP. In this sense, the modernisation of the agricultural sector is imperative and the government is working on mechanisation, health security and the development of a processing industry. Thanks to the additional extractive revenues, the government has been able to finance measures in favour of purchasing power, such as a food subsidy and a 20% increase in the minimum wage. These measures should support consumption. The central bank has tightened its policy (main rate at 8.25% at the end of December 2022), but weak development of the interbank market and strong dollarisation are limiting its impact, and are keeping inflation high. A high starting point should mechanically moderate growth, as 2022 was a good year.

After being suspended in 2020, the fiscal rule was reinstated in January 2022. Amended in 2018, it limits the growth of budgetary expenditure by 3% from one year to the next and aims to reduce the non-oil primary deficit. The restoration also implies a debt target and an annual reduction of USD 0.2 billion in funds from the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) to the budget. In conjunction with less public spending, windfall revenues from hydrocarbons have been spared. Significant inefficiencies remain in the operation of the many state-owned enterprises, resulting in debt of about 30% of GDP in 2020. 006ab0faaa
