During rehearsals for the song on 28 June, the band arrangement was reduced to Lennon on piano and Harrison playing percussion.[3] A fragment from this rehearsal[3] and take 22 of the song, along with an overdub of the orchestra from the close of the released version, is heard on the Beatles' 1996 compilation album Anthology 3.

Lennon recalled asking George Martin to give the song a lush orchestral arrangement in the style of old Hollywood films and admitted, "Yeah, corny".[3] The orchestra comprised 26 musicians: 12 violins, three violas, three cellos, one harp, three flutes, one clarinet, one horn, one vibraphone and one string bass. Eight members of the Mike Sammes Singers also took part in the recording, providing backing vocals.[3]

With "Good Night", Starr became the third Beatle, after McCartney and Harrison, to record a song credited to the group without the other members performing (Lennon would be the fourth with "Julia"). The song ends with Starr whispering: "Good night ... Good night, everybody ... Everybody, everywhere ... Good night".

The song has been covered by several artists, including the Carpenters, Kenny Loggins (feat. Alison Krauss), Kidsongs, Linda Ronstadt and Manhattan Transfer. Barbra Streisand recorded it in 1969 for her album What About Today? In 2006, Cirque du Soleil included a version in their Beatles-themed production Love. Ekkehard Ehlers's track "Plays John Cassavetes 2" (on his 2002 album, Plays) is built from a 6-second instrumental sample from the song.

What made Chase Me such a triumph was its ability to fuse traditional k-pop structure and hooks with the kind of aggressive, crunchy guitars so familiar to listeners of Japanese rock. In contrast, Good Night is a much more straightforward affair. While the sound is still fresh within the narrow world of k-pop girl groups, the song itself could have easily been delivered by countless Japanese acts or even the throngs of pop/punk bands favored by western pop culture outlets like Hot Topic.

I'm ashamed to say that I know virtually nothing about this month'ssong, except that it strikes me as more suitable for Easter thananything else I'm likely to pull out of my hat. It's not a traditionalsong, except perhaps in the Bahamas. It's not part of the standardOld-Time repertoire. But it's been done by Tom, Brad, and Alice; whatmore could you really want?

I first heard this song over twenty years ago, sung by Bill Stainesin a version derived from Joseph Spence. Spence called it I Bid YouGood Night. It almost doesn't qualify as the same song; the Spenceversion has pretty much the same melody (close enough for folk music, anyway), but keeps only the first verse, and hacks on that -- thenrepeats it, with variations and a bit of call-and-answer. The resultwent something like this:

But Tom, Brad, and Alice are more curious than I am. They dug arounduntil they found the original in the Cokesbury Hymnal. Turnsout that, instead of one verse, there are seven. The song is creditedto F.A. and J.E. Sankey, and is properly titled The Christian's'Good-Night'. Whatever it's called, and however it's played, it's agreat melody, and unlike many hymns, the lyrics are tolerable, if onlybarely.

This piece just cries out for fingerstyle guitar, and indeed, that'swhat Tom Sauber plays. But he retunes the guitar to an open D tuning(DADF#AD), while Brad Leftwich tunes the fiddle ADAD. All those specialtunings give the song an incredibly rich sound -- but they also make itharder to play. Turns out that you can get almost the same sound bytransposing up to G and playing the guitar in standard tuning. It'sharder to harmonize in that case (you need a tenor who is really atenor), but some things are worth it.

Long is your slumber as an infant's sleep,

But you shall wake no more to toil and weep.

Thine is a perfect rest so pure and deep.

Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Lord, I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Until the shadows from this earth are cast,

Until he gathers in his sheaves at last,

Until the twilight gloom be overpass'd,

Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Lord, I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Until, made beautiful by love divine,

Thou in the lightness of the Lord shall shine

And he shall bring that golden crown of thine,

Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

And I bid you goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

These rhyming spirituals were traditionally sung, unaccompanied, by men, and the texts were based on the older anthems or on some biblical story, event or character. Sometimes the songs relate events of local interest, for example, the drowning at sea of someone in the community, or the sinking of a ship. The over-riding feature of the style is the high incidence of improvisation, and as each voice is permitted to extemporize freely the resulting performance is characterized by a rhythmically complex texture. With the failure of the sponge industry in 1938, the rhyming style declined sharply and is very seldom, if ever, heard in the Bahamas today.

One group recorded the song and discovered more about it in the 1990s. Waterson: Carthy, an English folk group consisting of Norma Waterson, her husband Martin Carthy, their daughter Eliza, and other family members, released this version of the song on their 1995 debut album. At the time, they included in their liner notes the following story about learning a version of the song through following the research of two folklorists in North Yorkshire:

"Thank You and Good Night" (formerly titled "Monday Night Football," sometimes rendered as "Thank You and Goodnight") is the seventh (or eighth, on vinyl releases) and final track from Weezer's 2022 EP, SZNZ: Summer.

"Monday Night Football" was first alluded to by Rivers Cuomo in a Riverpedia entry for SZNZ as being a song about the pilot of the Goodyear Blimp. At this time, however, it had yet to be placed in any of the seasons. The page song was later confirmed to be the last song on SZNZ: Summer. Cuomo attempted to persuade his management to allow Weezer to perform the song at the NFL draft performance, but Crush rejected the idea for being too on-the-nose.[1] Cuomo first mentioned the song under the title "Thank You and Good Night" as an acronym on his Discord server on June 6, 2022, after being asked what his favorite song from SZNZ: Summer was.[2] On June 11, Cuomo shared a voice note clip of the song to fans, revealing the title to be "Thank You and Good Night". [3]

The intro to "Thank You and Good Night" is repurposed from a song Rivers Cuomo first wrote as a teenager in 1988, "Never Forget," for his band Avant Garde. The bridge melody to "Thank You and Good Night" also resembles that of a previous Weezer song, "Beginning of the End" (itself lifted the chorus of the solo Cuomo demo "Volunteers"). It is unknown if this similarity was an accident (ala the reuse of "You and Me Together" for "Iambic Pentameter" on SZNZ: Winter) or a deliberate allusion.

The song is about loving someone before and after sleep, being the last encounter for that person. In the evening, you dream of the person you want to be with, and in the morning you hope to see that person again. Though conveying the feelings can't be done, remembering the person keeps them alive in you.

"Good Night" is the final song by the Beatles on their 1968 album The Beatles (also known as The White Album). It is sung by Ringo Starr, the only Beatle to appear on the song. The music is provided by an orchestra arranged and conducted by George Martin.

The "Goodnight Song" is usually the final song to close The Good Night Show. It is sung by Melanie after she says goodnight to Hush, and sings to the Sproutlet viewers about what they'll do in their dreams and tomorrow, before tuning in herself. Leo didn't sing this when he hosted in 2006, but rather another closing song.

Celebrated by contemporaries for his encyclopedic mind and sharp sense of humor, Levant appeared on numerous TV programs, ranging from quiz shows to late-night programs. He even had his own syndicated offering, The Oscar Levant Show, for several years in the 1950s.

Levant frequently appeared on Tonight Starring Jack Paar (now The Tonight Show) between 1958 and 1962. The live broadcast depicted onstage in Good Night, Oscar is an amalgam of multiple broadcasts, featuring famous Levant quips from several different appearances. Some of his best-known ones include:

Although books about the seasons are lovely reading any time of year, there is something about the coming of autumn and all the changes it brings that feels even more appropriate for reading about the seasons. Fall is my favorite season, but I am always willing to ponder the things to love about every season. And luckily, we have a gorgeous new book out this August that provides not only stunning imagery, but includes beautiful songs originally written by Margaret Wise Brown. 2351a5e196
