How to join
Ph.D. students:
The research group of Dr. Cody Gonzalez is recruiting two Ph.D. positions for highly motivated and hard-working students interested in soft robotics, multifunctional materials, and design optimization. The students will start either in Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. The selected candidates will be expected to conduct high-impact research projects and write strong peer-reviewed papers for publication in top-tier scientific journals.
Research Areas
Analytical modeling
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Simulations
Design optimization
Smart materials
Coupled smart material mechanisms
Lithium-ion battery soft actuators
Liquid crystalline elastomers
Energy harvesting
Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Strong mathematical programming background.
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as MATLAB, Python, C++, etc.
Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis software like COMSOL, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.
Familiarity with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software like Solidworks and hands-on experience with machining.
Good oral and written communication skills in English.
