A. Second skin + B. Cling wrap + General Aftercare (after 1 week, 1 month, longterm)
A. Second skin (protective film):
Leave the second skin on for 3-5 days (no longer than 7 days).
It’s normal for the tattoo to look blurry or for fluid to collect underneath.
After a few days, remove it in the shower or under running water (see IG reel tutorial).
Start at a corner or loose edge and gently peel it off parallel to the skin. Do not pull it straight away. Keep the skin taut to avoid irritation.
Wash away plasma, blood, and excess ink using a mild, unscented soap.
Pat dry gently using paper towels or tissues. Avoid rubbing with a towel.
Apply a thin layer of ointment (do not over-apply).
Moisturise once or twice daily to prevent dryness and scabbing.
Wash and care for your tattoo once daily using this method throughout the healing process (approx. 3–4 weeks).
Remove the second skin earlier if:
You experience an allergic reaction to the adhesive (itching, redness, or swelling around the edges).
The film peels off and exposes the tattoo (if only the corners lift and the tattoo is still covered, you may trim the edges or secure them with tape or bandages).
Plasma or excess fluid leaks out and can’t be resealed: in this case, remove it completely and continue aftercare using cling wrap (see below):
B. Cling Wrap / Foil:
Leave the wrap on until the evening, ideally overnight, and remove it the next day. In hot weather or if you sweat a lot, remove it after 3–5 hours or once you’re home to avoid trapping heat and moisture.
Wash away plasma and fluid using lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap.
Pat dry gently with paper towels. Avoid rubbing with a towel to prevent irritation and contamination.
Let the tattoo dry completely, then apply a thin layer of unscented lotion with clean hands.
Once absorbed, rewrap using a new, clean wrap. Change the wrap morning and evening after washing and moisturising.
You may wrap the tattoo before bed to protect clothing and bedding.
If your work involves contact with dirt or contaminants (medical, food service, construction, etc.), keep the tattoo wrapped while at work.
After the first week, continue cleaning and moisturising once daily and repeat this routine for 3–4 weeks.
General Care
Do not use Vaseline or petroleum-based products. Always choose a water-based, unscented lotion.
Petroleum-based products seal the skin and prevent proper drying and healing.
Always apply aftercare with clean hands to avoid infection.
Keep the tattoo covered or apply sunscreen, ideally SPF 50, once fully healed.
Avoid for at least 1 month:
Over-moisturising
Intense exercise (excessive sweating, saunas, steam rooms)
Swimming (pools, ocean, lakes)
Sun exposure, tanning beds
One Week After Your Tattoo:
It’s normal for your tattoo to become flaky or peel. Avoid picking, as this can affect healing and cause scarring.
Some flakes may appear dark or black - this is normal.
Mild itchiness is common. Do not scratch. Instead, gently pat or rub the area with clean hands.
Continue keeping the tattoo clean and moisturised.
One Month & Long-Term Aftercare:
Your tattoo is considered healed once it stops flaking and feels flat and smooth, similar to the surrounding skin.
Moisturise regularly and apply sunscreen (SPF 50 recommended) when exposed to sunlight, especially in summer. This helps prevent fading.
Touch-Ups
Touch-ups are free* within 4-6 weeks of your appointment or when booking another tattoo.
Otherwise, the fee is $100 which covers setup, needles, inks, and materials.
Does not apply to placements that fade faster and may require frequent touch-ups (e.g. fingers, hands, ears).
If you have any concerns or questions, please DM or email me a clear photo of your healed tattoo.
