Bank is a golf betting game that is a series of one-hole matches between a player designated as the bank and all other players in the group. Every hole is a new game with the same or different banker, depending on the outcome of the previous hole. On the first hole, a player is designated as the banker by a random selection, such as flipping a tee. The banker then has a match for one hole against all other players in the group. The default value for each match bet is $1, this can be adjusted to any agreeable amount amongst the group. The Banker for the next hole is determined by the player with the lowest score on the previous hole. If there is a tie in scores, the banker is the first one in the hole (i.e. the player with the longest putt).
For example, if there are four players in the group and player B has been selected as the banker, then the matches are as follows:
Player A vs B, for amount set by player A.
Player C vs B, for the amount set by player C.
Player D vs B, for the amount set by player D.
Any handicap strokes are determined by wheeling off of the banker. On any given hole the banker may give or get strokes from the other players. For example, using the course handicaps below, if the current hole is listed as handicap 4, with player B as the banker, the banker would give one stroke to player A, get a stroke from player D and play Player C straight up.
Course Handicap
Player A 10
Player B 6
Player C 3
Player D +2
The only requirement for the order of play is that the Banker must go last, all other players can tee off in any order. A player may press the current bet anytime after they have hit and before the Banker hits their tee shot. A press will double the current bet between the banker and the pressing player. The Banker has the option of pressing back, but that requires pressing ALL players in the group (i.e. the Banker cannot selective press one player and not the other).
Natural birdies double the current bet. Eagles triple the bet and double Eagles quadruple the bet.
The App has been set up with a 1 unit bet on all holes except for holes 9, 16 and 17 defaults to a 2 unit bet. And the last hole starts with a 3 unit bet. Players can opt to change these values to any lower amount (e.g. change their wager to 1 unit, note that a default value for a "unit" is $1 but players can agree on any unit amount).
These are default values for every hole, but players can change these to any value they desire prior to playing each hole. Also the default values can be changed by users to any double-digit value under the Game Settings dialog. The multipliers for under par scores can also be adjusted in the Settings screen.
For the par 3 holes, the presses get a little more interesting as you must press the ball while it is in the air. The air press will triple the bet for the players and double the bet for the Banker (the Banker must also air press). Each of theses air press multipliers can be adjusted in the Settings screen.
While the concept of the game is relatively simple, there are multiple complications when scoring all the different bets and handicap adjustments. Thus the reason for the Golf Bank App. The Bank App keeps track of all the bets, scores, presses, and handicap allowances to provide a simple interface to score the results, enjoy the game and rub the losses in your buddies faces.
The first time the Bank App is opened you will see the Login/Register screen:
You must Register your name, password and email address to start the program. Once you have registered your information you can Login to start a game at the Game Setup page.
At this point you can select the course you are playing and your fellow group of golfers. New courses and players can be added at anytime by selecting the ‘+’ icon in the upper right menu bar. When entering new course information, the ‘Allow Edits/Deletion’ check box will allow any other users to update or delete the course information. If the box is unchecked, then only the original creator or an Administrator will be allowed to modify the data. Once the course has been selected, you can then set the default tees.
You can select any number of players to compete in the game, but you must select at least 2 players to continue. You will be able to start the game after the course and players have been selected and will be shown the ‘Select Player Tees’ dialog. All players will default to the tee box selected on the previous screen and you can adjust any player to a different set of tees. Changing the tees will automatically adjust the players course handicap as appropriate. You may then continue to scoring the game.
You must select a Banker for each hole that is played. Press the 🏦 Icon on the left side of the display to select the Banker. Once the Banker has been selected any players that get a stroke from the banker will be displayed in red, those players that give the banker a stroke will be in green. You may use the ‘Press’ check box to indicate that a player has pressed their bet. You may optionally alter the bet amount to any 2 digit value. After entering the score for each player, the Win/Loss amount for the hole will be automatically calculated along with a running total of the bets from all holes played. Press the ‘Save’ button to continue to the next hole.
The banker on the next hole will be automatically highlighted if it is obvious (i.e. there was only one player with the lowest score). If there is a tie in scores, the banker must be selected by pressing the bank icon. You can display the Score Card Summary for all holes by selecting the scorecard icon on the right side of the App Bar menu.
You can add side bets to any hole by double tapping the name area of the score screen. Doing so will bring up the Side Bets screen where you can enter any bet amount for each player that owes other players a side bet. Side bets can be added to any hole and be between any players.
If a player drops out before completing all holes, simply skip their score value on the holes that were not played. Once all holes are completed, the Score Card Summary will give details on the round for each hole as well as the total win/loss recored for each player. Press the ’Send’ icon in the upper right to email the results to all players in the group.
If a player joins the group mid round, then you can add them by going back to the Game Setup dialog (press the < icon in the upper left corner). You will receive a warning message before the Setup screen is shown stating that all scores/bets may be lost if you do not select the ‘Load Scores’ screen to continue.
