We Will Win This 

   I felt it coming

The danger in my gut

The muted screams in my body

Told me so

I saw people who weren’t paying attention

And I saw those who latched on to the dark energy

The morbid ideology

They joined the ranks of chaos

They elevated themselves by stepping on those who they

         perceived as different

          They fantasized getting ahead by joining a cult who tricked 

          them that they would 

I saw the gas lighting

I saw the hypocrisy

I saw the dehumanization on display

In plain sight

And I witnessed it being accepted

The people approved it

And my heart sunk

I door knocked

I wrote about it

I talked about it

I made phone calls

My action wasn’t enough

At times I felt small

Like a rabbit fighting a lion

Today we are in a crossroad

People have awakened

And a spark of resistance has ignited a wildfire of strength 

throughout our state and country

And I see communities come together

I see people helping each other

They fend off the dark soldiers who are breaking down doors

But not spirits

It has taken some time

But I can feel the will of the people rise

It comes out in song

In dance

In art

In music

In laughter

Marching – With open hearts

With love

I feel determined 

I am marching

I am singing

I play music

My body receives this

My heart feels wide open

I am blessed to be here

We will win this
