The Warriors make their first visit to the hot-starting Timberwolves on Friday night. The meeting will be the first of three on the year between the Dubs and Timberwolves. A year ago, the Warriors took the first three of the four meetings between the two teams before losing the fourth game in the final second when Karl-Anthony Towns hit a pair of free throws to clinch an overtime win for Minnesota.
D'Angelo Russell poured in 24 points, Stephen Curry scored 31 points and Draymond Green grabbed 13 rebounds to go with 13 points as the Warriors took down the Rockets in Houston 125-113. Willie Cauley-Stein collected his second straight double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Full Recap
Cauley-Stein continues to provide exceptional support for a Warriors roster that entered the season with questions regarding depth. Since returning to the lineup against the Suns on October 30, Cauley-Stein is average 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while shooting 75 percent from the floor. As he has been penciled in to start, and his comfort level within the offense has grown, so too has his production. After scoring 15 points and tying a career-high with 18 rebounds against Portland, Cauley-Stein scored 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting with 12 rebounds in Houston. His opportunities to continue to grow, as he has attempted 23 shots over the last game, the third most shots on the team behind Curry and Russell.
The Timberwolves enter Friday night's contest as one of the league's biggest early season surprises. At 6-1 and tied with Denver (6-1) and the Clippers (7-2) for the top spot in the Western Conference, Minnesota is riding a hot offense and a hot start to the season from rookie Jarrett Culver and Towns. Culver leads the team with 27.3 points per game to go with his 6.8 rebounds. Towns meanwhile, is pouring in 24.3 points per game, tallying a league-leading 16.0 rebounds per game and 5.9 assists per game, second most among NBA big men. All of that helps lead the NBA's most dominant offense, averaging 125.1 points per game with a 12.0 point differential, good for third in the league.
