Our mission is to help the senior community with regard to hearing problems and to provide students with the opportunity to contribute and gain experience.
According to National Institute of Age, approximately one in three individuals over the age of 60 experience hearing loss, and this ratio increases to one in two among those over the age of 85.
Hearing impairments have a lot of negative impacts on elderly people. For example, hearing impairments increase the chance of falling, which can result in months of recovery for the elderly. Additionally, as seniors lose hearing capabilities, negative emotions accumulate due to constant difficulty in communication with others. If this problem exacerbates, they might start to isolate themselves from others, which will eventually lead to mental illnesses.
We aim to address this problem through spreading awareness with regard to hearing impairment and alert seniors of hearing impairments for them to get early treatment by holding speaker events at senior communities and offering follow up free testing.
We are students in the bay area who hope to help serve our senior communities and help improve their lives. Our organization reside under the Creative Learning Foundation Nonprofit.
We aim to focus on the problem of elders' unaddressed hearing problems through spreading awareness with regard to hearing impairment and alert seniors of hearing impairments for them to get early treatment by holding speaker events at senior communities and offering follow up free testing.
We organize speakers events at different seniors centers in the hope of informing them of the most suited way for them to get hearing aids if they have hearing problems. In the presentation, the advantages and disadvantages of three major types of business model for hearing aids are discussed. They are Big Box, High End Hearing Center, and OTC (over the counter).
Our volunteers are taught how to conduct hearing test using audiometers under the guidance of professional dispensers. Every week, our volunteers go to libraries or senior centers and offer free hearing tests. We are able to help seniors generate a basic report with regard to their hearing ability and inform them early if there's any impairments.
