Golden Age Collective   

This is an inspiration for me and especially for people who are in their mid-sixties and onwards. A few days back just before Children's Day, I got a few books from CBT New Delhi, especially in Bangla and one each in Hindi and English with a lot of support from Mrs Sengupta who is the person in charge besides some amazing discussions about roots, identity and language. 

It was disheartening to know that books in regional languages in CBT have dwindled drastically and in many cases, it has stopped altogether. 

However it might be a small attempt from my side to get a few books, but it got me thinking. 

Connecting different dots - as they say, you get the dots together and the connection happens on its own. 

I know my maa and baba can read Bangla and I feel especially at the ripe age of 77 years, where he may have few things to offer. However, what is a million-dollar question? 

When I kept all the books on my desk - he picked up, especially the Bangla ones. 

After I saw that he is reading them efficiently and seems to be enjoying it a lot. 

An idea dawned on me - why doesn't he write this in Roman script (English basically!) from Bangla I know quite a few folks like me who can speak in Bangla but can't or are not too good at reading or writing. However Chinese whispers happened, maybe it was good that it happened and he started translating it into English. 

I gave him the idea that if he can complete the translation of this book we will get it published under CBT or we can also self-publish it. Also why stop there - go ahead and do more translations of the same. He is quite proficient in three (English, Bangla and Hindi ) languages and can play around. Last but not least I told him we could do a storytelling podcast which also he has lapped it up with enthusiasm. 

Thus came the idea to me as I have met lot of people who are amazing storytellers of their journey and also people who after a certain age feel what is their contribution to society now as once they have crossed that number, which could be different for different societies, However, seventy is, by and large, could be pegged as a universal golden figure. 

Therefore this initiative is a collective of ideas and resources around how we can all learn from them and also they can come together and feel more purposeful in their lives. All they need is holding space for them and we will see some amazing magic unfolding.
