Born on May 14, 1937, I lived with my parents and brother in Katowice, Poland which Nazi Germany annexed in September 1939.
When my family in 1942 visited my paternal grandparents in Frishtak, a Polish small town (Shtetl), we found despairing sadness, the Nazis on the march. I was 5-6 years old when I witnessed these unforgettable horrors.
I saw my grandfather and grandmother hit with rifle butts by the Nazis and killed instantly.
My family and I were running and hiding for survival and begging for food. The farmers chased us away and told us that they do not help Jews! We were hungry, thirsty, full of lice, and sores.
I had my sixth, seventh and eighth birthday in hiding.
Now, a Holocaust educator: I speak to school and corporate audiences about my experiences during the darkest time in human history in hopes that this horror will never never be repeated.
