When I Looked in the Mirror and Saw God Staring Back is a tender, electric offering—a devised theatre piece born from the quiet act of looking in the mirror and truly seeing yourself. Through movement, spoken word, and visual storytelling, two trans femmes explore what it means to reclaim their reflections, their bodies, and their joy. It’s about the moments that shimmer—when you feel divine, and when you don’t. It’s about the holiness of being exactly who you are.
Created through a collaborative process called devised theatre, this piece emerges from lived experience, intuition, and the magic of collective creation. Runtime: 60 mins.

Amayas Gonzalez (b.2001) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative born and raised in Denver, Colorado, with their summers and holidays in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their artistic endeavors intricately interweave their multiracial Latine heritage and trans/queer identities across various mediums including photography, fashion, poetry, and performance art. Gonzalez achieved their inaugural solo exhibition at the age of 20 in Denver's Spectra Art Space, featuring a collection titled "Pearls, Neon Lights, and Hatred," which melded poetry with an upcycled clothing series. Motivated by a desire to create the imagery and narratives they yearned for in their formative years, Gonzalez endeavors to introduce art reflective of their journey, while simultaneously challenging societal boundaries by venturing into unconventional spaces. Amayas aims to pave the way for future generations of trans femmes of color, amplifying narratives that have historically been marginalized and overlooked.
