3 Deep Questions (with 3 Precious Answers)
Throughout history, three questions have plagued the minds of theologians, philosophers and peasants alike. These three questions have spurred the creation of religions, philosophies, and every kind of theological debate since time began. I’m sure that you, too, have asked these questions. Maybe you’ve received answers, maybe you have feelings that assure answers that you believe, but aren’t taught in your religion.
What are these 3 deep questions? As you read them, see if they sound familiar:
Where Did I Come From Before I Was Born?
Why Am I Here On Earth?
Where Will I Go After I Die?
Most everyone has had at least one, if not all three of these questions at some point in their lives. And with good reason. The answers to these questions give your life meaning and purpose. Yet most religions out there do not have a solid answer to these questions. But answers are out there. In fact, I’ll bet most of you have ideas or feelings that lead you to believe something about each question. Try this: Answer question number 1 in your mind. Now ask yourself, did I get that answer from my pastor, or is it something I just feel inside.
This is a very important distinction, because if you feel something is right, something that makes sense to you and feels like it is part of who you are, but if your religion doesn’t teach it, where does that leave you?
Let me demonstrate. As you read these principles, pay attention to how you feel, for the Holy Ghost teaches through feelings of peace, warmth, love and assurance. What I am going to tell you is only taught in one religion on Earth, but will feel so familiar that you will think you have been taught it your entire life.
What if I told you that before you were born, you lived with Heavenly Father (God), for you are His child. He loved you dearly and wanted you to be happy. All of us lived there together as His children, therefore we are all brothers and sisters. We all wanted one thing: to be more like Heavenly Father.
Our Heavenly Father wanted that too, and He knew that for us to be fully happy, we would need to progress spiritually to be more like Him. So, He created a plan that would enable us to come to Earth and learn and grow. This plan is called the Plan of Happiness. The only problem was that we wouldn’t be able to be like Him and return to Him if two conditions weren’t met: we needed a body like He had, and we needed to be clean--without sin, for Heavenly Father knew there was no happiness in sin.
Heavenly Father knew that we would inevitably mess up, and that there wasn’t anything we could do to overcome those two obstacles on our own. So, His plan proposed a Savior who would live a sinless life, and then pay the price that justice demands so that His mercy could overcome our sins and weaknesses, and we could become clean and worthy of living with God again.
Our elder brother, Jesus, volunteered to play that role and become our Savior.
Here on Earth, we now have the opportunity to learn for ourselves, without the memory of our pre-mortal existence with our Heavenly Father. We also receive 2 gifts that allow us to become more like Him. The first, a body, is a free gift to each of us. The second is a family. For to become like Him, we needed to become Fathers and Mothers ourselves.
Both of these gifts can be brought with us after we die. For through Jesus Christ, all will resurrect and receive a perfected body. Our family, also, can continue after this life as we follow the plan our Heavenly Father set for us. This is what is meant by “Eternal Life”, to live forever with Heavenly Father and our family and to be like Him.
Now, how did you feel as you read these truths? Was any of it a surprise? Were you surprised by how familiar it all felt?
Jesus Christ taught his disciples that the Holy Ghost would teach them all things, and bring all things to their remembrance (John 14:26). Is it any wonder that these truths would feel familiar? You were taught all these things before, while living with Heavenly Father before you were born. It feels familiar because the Holy Ghost is bringing it to your remembrance. He is reminding you of truths you once knew. For me, when I review these truths, it feels like my spirit is coming home.
If you, like I, have been touched by these truths, and want to know more, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can come to your home, or meet you somewhere, and share with you the rest of the Plan of Happiness. With this knowledge, you will be able to receive the happiness Heavenly Father has promised, and make your family bonds last forever, instead of just till death do you part.
The first step after learning with the missionaries, will be to be baptized into the church. If you decide to follow the plan and be baptized, I hope you will contact me, I would love to come to your baptism and join you on the first step in our Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness.
