EXPLORATION OF THE SHAPE DRAWING TOOLS IN MICROSOFT WORD FOR FOSTERING IDEA DEVELOPMENT IN THE GHANAIAN INDIGENOUS KENTE WEAVING INDUSTRY
As a New-media Art Technologist, capacity building in the use of computer as a multimedia apparatus for idea development to enhance studio practice in the visual art academy, has become my primos concern.
I have been exploring one of the most popular computer software, which happens to be on all users of windows operating system computers but mostly regarded as a word-editing programme, for creating fascinating kente designs which can foster idea development in the indigenous kente weaving industry in Ghana.
It is undeniable fact that many artists and textile designers are oblivious of the capabilities of Microsoft Word designing capabilities beyond word editing. Well, there are many fascinating creative designs that can be developed as far as graphic design and textile designing are concerned. My objective was therefore to bring this skill to the doorstep of the indigenous kente weaver through students from Junior High School to the University level.
The developers of the Microsoft word programme embedded it with geometric shape construction tools for mathematical illustration which can also be adopted effectively for developing ideas in graphic design and kente weaving.
The workshop demonstrated my skills in designing of motifs and symbols for kente weaving to create the awareness and avail myself for all interested artists and art institutions to later build the capacity as and when they desire to learn the skill. Below are selected samples of designs.
