I sat in the lobby of the facility nervously awaiting our meeting. The Director of Social Services inquired of my visit. When I told her that Steve & I were college sweethearts, showed her Steve's graduation picture & shared that we hadn't seen each other in forty two years, she decided to bring Steve down herself. Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies. The minute he rolled into the visiting room & uttered the sweet nickname he gave me, forty two years melted away. He & I were 18 & 21 again. We cried, we laughed, we held each other. And most wonderfully we realized we were still in love. We were the first true & real loves of each other's lives.

O my Love sent me a lusty list,

Did not compare me to a summer's day

Wrote not the beauty of mine eyes

But catalogued in a pretty detailed

And comprehensive way the way(s)

In which he was better than me.

"More capable of extra- and inter-

Polation. More well-traveled -rounded multi-

Lingual! More practiced in so many matters

More: physical, artistic, musical,

Politic(al) academic (I dare say!) social

(In many ways!) and (ditto!) sexual!"

And yet these mores undid but his own plea(s)(e)

This is a wonderful technique I see spinners use less often than the woolen method. After carding your fibers until smooth, begin rolling your rolag from one edge of the carding cloth to the other, sideways. This aligns the fibers as it would for a worsted-type preparation.

As a teacher, I was obsessed with cultivating a love of reading in my students. I love to read, loved it as a kid too. I'm equally compelled to ensure that my own child loves reading -- and he does. I well aware that I'm on a mission -- but I also know it's a worthy one!

6. Listen to audio books. Invite students to listen to them; play short passages. To me, audio books "count" as reading. While you're not developing decoding or fluency skills, you are acquiring vocabulary, applying comprehension strategies, and enjoying stories or accruing information. Some of the audio books I've listened to have stuck with me in ways that reading text hasn't. My mind was free to visualize the scenes in a way that creating lasting images. (One such book like this was Native Son by Richard Wright. A phenomenal listen).

8. Make connections between reading and other issues. I just read this this fascinating article in Harper's about how people in Mali hid their ancient sacred texts as Islamic militants took over Timbuktu. Books and reading have always been political (think banned books, prohibitions on slaves becoming literate, etc.). Help students see the wider, historical and political context of the importance of reading to enhance their appreciation.

10. Teach reading strategies. Finally, I believe that all teachers, in every content area, should be responsible for teaching reading. Text genres are different in every content area -- teachers should receive PD in how to teach reading strategies so that they can do so with students. Kids won't enjoy reading if they can't do it -- no one loves doing something that's really hard. We must give them the skills to read at the same time that we cultivate an attitude.

Dogs and people differ in many ways, but something we have in common is a tendency to convey emotion through facial expression. For instance, dogs can indeed smile, although it may not look exactly like the expression we recognize from our fellow humans (unless you know someone who sticks their tongue out and pants when happy). Scientific conclusions vary when it comes to canine smiles, but many animal behaviorists see dogs as great copiers of human behavior who have learned to incorporate the smile to ingratiate themselves to us.

I contacted Brittany about creating 2 prints for my living room. I asked if she could capture images of birds on branches - one of them being a peacock since I love the look and color of that bird.

She worked with me to determine the size and shape that would fit the scale of the room. Partway through the process, she brought the pair of prints to my house to check on the colors - always offering to make changes if I desired any. I'm thrilled with the final result!!! These prints are perfect- and put an end to a long search for 'just the right prints'!

There's no set number of these 11 that would indicate whether a specific partner hits above or below the threshold for truly loving you. However, with these signs as a guide, you can gain insight into your relationship's strengths and weaknesses and from there, address the areas of weakness. At the same time, if you want your partner to feel truly loved, ask yourself honestly how you would rate on these 11 indicators. Perhaps it's time for you not only to count the ways that you're loved, but the ways that you show your love.

Having students being disconnected and disinterested in the subject we so passionately spent many years dedicating our lives to learn, understand, and ultimately instruct, easily dampens our enjoyment of teaching. But when we connect with our students, learn about what is going on in their lives and their interests, they reciprocate. They may not fall in love with the subject, but it helps make it less boring because they know a bit more about the person who loves the subject. There is increased interest to learn and find out more about the subject and why someone would find it as interesting as we do.

"After a lifetime of counseling, being married, and raising two children, I can tell you from experience that very few of us know how to do so in ways that are truly meaningful to our loved ones. Whatever season you find yourself in, I want to give you the confidence you need to connect profoundly with the ones you care for. It is my sincere hope and belief that the Love Language concepts will help you to love better and grow closer."

As followers of Christ, we are called to live in ways that draw us ever closer to our Savior. To follow Jesus is to make extraordinary commitments: To love God with our whole being and to love others as Jesus has loved us.

King used to teach art to high school students, most of whom choose to take art as an elective and wanted to be there. That difference is key to student motivation, she said. So, King started to look into ways to give her elementary students, who were required to take her class, more choices.

Dear my love, I am sitting here at the table you built, back when time was plentiful, and money was sparse. Back when pre-drinks were always at our place, loving sleep-ins were abundant, and the days were our own. I wonder . . . back then, what we might have imagined our life would look like, 10 years later? Would we have pictured the white picket fence, the curly, fair-haired, sensitive little boy and cheeky little girl? We probably would have imagined that we would be hard working, but would we have pictured the deep-set exhaustion that is our day-to-day...

Hello Liz! Any advice on how to transition a toddler to a more plant based/vegan diet? She hates meat! All meat. She loves tofu though and meat substitutes but is having a very hard time with veggies and fruits. She has a dairy allergy as well. She loves vegan cheese and of course chips which we rarely buy. Just want her to be healthy and happy!

I am definitely late to the comments. But I love savory yogurt. As a Greek I always make tzatziki and can literally eat it right from the bowl. So I tried to switch things up a bit when I ate yogurt with or as a meal. I usually buy plain Greek yogurt and add what I want, even sweet. Fresh fruit, jelly, marmalades, syrups whatever I am working with. So I do the same with savory. Load with veggies, some salt and pepper. I love adding fresh tomatoes, jalepenos, scallion and a little everything bagel seasoning. I feel like I am eating something bad and the veggies give it a crunch too. Yum! I do the same with cottage cheese as well. 2351a5e196
