أولياء الأمور الكرام،
لا يسعنا إلا أن نكون أكثر فخرًا بالطريقة التي أنهى بها طلبتنا هذا الفصل الدراسي الثاني لعام 2021!
فقد سعد وابتهج كل أفراد مجتمعنا المدرسي بيوم الثلاثاء مع تعلم وحماس الطلبة من خلال المشاركة في الاحتفال بالمهمة التاريخية الإماراتية للمريخ. حيث أظهر الطلبة إبداعهم وابتكارهم وشغفهم الكبير من خلال اكتشافهم للحقائق العلمية المتعلقة بهذه المهمة التاريخية. وركز طلبتنا على كل تفاصيل هذا الإنجاز الهائل، وقد حدثناهم عن مبادئ الابتكار والطموح المغروسة بقلب الهوية الإماراتية وفي أخلاقيات مدرستنا. فهذا النجاح الكبير كان نتيجة ستة أعوام و5.5 مليون ساعة من الجدية والإخلاص في العمل. حيث يتعين علينا جميعًا الأخذ بهذا العمل كمصدر للإلهام، فمن خلال المشاركة الواضحة للرؤى والمهام وتحلينا بالعزم والإصرار يمكننا الوصول إلى غاياتنا.
واستمر تناولنا لموضوع الابتكار والاكتشاف العلمي على مدار الأسبوع، حيث شارك طلبتنا بفعاليات اليوم الدولي للمرأة في ميدان العلوم. كما ذكرنا طلبتنا بالقواعد الأساسية للبقاء بأمان على الإنترنت من خلال احتفالهم باليوم العالمي للإنترنت الآمن. ونحن نتطلع إلى مجموعة الأنشطة الرائعة التي سنحظى بها في أعقاب إجازة الفصل الدراسي الثاني من خلال مشاركتنا بمبادرة الإمارات تبتكر 2021.
وعلاوة على تركيزنا على العلوم والتكنولوجيا، فقد شهدنا عزم وتصميم طلبتنا من خلال تنافسهم باليوم الرياضي لطالبات المرحلة الدراسية الرئيسية الثانية، ومن ناحية أخرى، شهدنا إبداع وابتكار متعلمينا الذين ألهمهم مهرجان طيران الإمارات للآداب.
كما إنني فخور بشكل خاص بأعضاء فريق عملنا الذين واصلوا بهذا الأسبوع دعمهم لحملة اللقاح بدبي، من خلال جهودنا المتضافرة لنلعب دورا في التصدي لانتشار عدوى كوفيد 19.
وبنهاية الفصل الدراسي الثاني الحافل بالفعاليات، أتمنى إجازة سعيدة لكل طلبتنا وعائلاتنا وفريق عملنا، وأتطلع إلى رؤيتكم جميعًا، المتعلمين بالحرم المدرسي والمتعلمين عن بعد، بيوم الأحد الموافق 21 فبراير.
Dear Respected Parents,
We could not be prouder of the way our students have finished this first half-term of 2021!
Our school community buzzed on Tuesday with the learning and excitement of students as they engaged with the significance of the UAE Mission to Mars. Students demonstrated tremendous creativity and curiosity as they explored the scientific facts related to the historic mission. Students reflected on the scale of this momentous achievement and were reminded of the values of innovation and ambition at the heart of the UAE identity and our school ethos. This success was the result of 6 years and 5.5 million hours of hard work and dedication. We can all take inspiration from what can be achieved when we share a clear mission and vision and are prepared to pursue our goals with determination.
The theme of innovation and scientific discovery continued throughout the week as students engaged with Women in Science Day. Students also took time to remind us of fundamental messages on how to stay safe online as they marked Safer Internet Day. We now look forward to the exciting array of activities that will be taking place after the break as we engage with the UAE Innovates 2021 initiative.
Alongside this focus on science and technology, we have witnessed, on the one hand, grit and determination as students competed in the Key Stage 2 Girls Sports Day and, on the other, imagination and originality as learners have been inspired by the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature.
I am also particularly proud of our members of staff this week who have continued to support the Dubai vaccination campaign in our concerted effort to play our part in preventing the transmission of Covid-19.
At the end of another eventful half-term I wish our students, families and staff a wonderful mid-term break and look forward to seeing everyone, both those onsite and who continue to learn remotely, on Sunday 21st February.

إجازة الفصل الدراسي الثاني لكل طلبة المراحل الدراسية: نتمنى لكل طلبتنا، المتعلمين بالحرم المدرسي والمتعلمين عن بعد، إجازة سعيدة، ونتطلع إلى رؤيتهم بالمدرسة بيوم الأحد الموافق 21 فبراير. ويرجى من أولياء الأمور تذكر أن يقوموا بالتواصل مع مدير المرحلة ذات الصلة في حال رغبتهم في تغيير النموذج التعليمي لأطفالهم بعد إجازة الفصل الدراسي الثاني.
طلب تغيير النماذج التعليمية لكل المراحل التعليمية بالمدرسة: يعمل القادة والمعلمون بجد كي يتكيف متعلمينا مع تقديم العملية التعليمية سواء بموقع المدرسة أو عن بعد. وقد قمنا بوضع هذا النموذج المختلط لضمان الاستمرارية في تقديم العملية التعليمية حال وجود حالات إصابة إيجابية بفيروس كورونا المستجد، ومراعاةً منا لرغبات أولياء الأمور خلال هذه الأوقات العصيبة. ويرجى منكم التكرم بالاطلاع على المزيد من التفاصيل الواردة أدناه والخاصة بأنظمة المدرسة المتعلقة بإدارة هذه العملية.

إعادة التسجيل لطلبة جميع المراحل الدراسية بالمدرسة: يسرنا إعلامكم بفتح باب إعادة التسجيل لأطفالكم اعتبارًا من يوم الأحد الموافق 7 فبراير. وستستلمون بريدًا إلكترونيًا مباشرةً من فريق التسجيل بالمدرسة، مرفق معه نموذج بسيط لأجل إكماله وإبداء رغباتكم به. فإكمالكم لهذا النموذج يدعمنا في تأمين مكان لطفلكم في مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية بالعام الدراسي الذي يبدأ بشهر سبتمبر 2021، وفي تأكيدنا على عدم إتاحة مقعد طفلكم إلى أطفال جدد. ففي العامين الماضيين، شهدنا زيادة كبيرة في أعداد أولياء الأمور الراغبين في البقاء بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية، فلكم منا جزيل الشكر على دعمكم الدائم لنا. وفي حال وجود أي أسئلة لديكم، يرجى التواصل مع فريق التسجيل بمدرستنا.
مواعيد اليوم الدراسي لمرحلة الروضة: اعتبارًا من الأحد الموافق 21 فبراير، سينهي طلبة الروضة 2 يومهم الدراسي في تمام الساعة 1:50م. وسنستمر في توفير خيار الانصراف مبكرًا في تمام الساعة 12:00م، وذلك لأولياء الأمور الذين يفضلون هذا الخيار. كما يمكن لطلبة الروضة 2 الانضمام لنادي الإشراف على الأشقاء المستمر حتى الساعة 2:30م، وذلك في حال وجود شقيق أكبر لهم بالمدرسة يحضر الحصة السادسة الإضافية أو يدرس بالمرحلة الثانوية. وستكون مواعيد انصراف الحافلات المدرسية الخاصة بطلبة الروضة 2 في تمام الساعة 12:00م والساعة 2:55م.
المرحلة الابتدائية (حضور الحصة السادسة الإضافية بموقع المدرسة): يرجى تذكر إرسال رسالة بريد إلكتروني إلى معلمي الصفوف في حال رغبتكم بحضور أطفالكم للحصة السادسة الإضافية بالمدرسة. وستكون مواعيد اصطحاب الطلبة الحاضرين لهذه الحصة الإضافية من الساعة 2.40م وحتى الساعة 3.00م. ويرجى منكم التكرم بالحضور في الموعد المحدد لاصطحاب أطفالكم. وبالنسبة لمن لن يحضروا هذه الحصة الإضافية بالمدرسة، ستكون مواعيد اصطحابهم من الساعة 2م وحتى الساعة 2.20م. وسيتم إعادة الطلبة إلى الفصول مرة أخرى بالساعة 2.20 حال لم يتم اصطحابهم في ذلك الموعد، وسيتم إعادتهم مرة أخرى ليتم اصطحابهم بتمام الساعة 2.40م.
المرحلة الإبتدائية (المقابلات الأسبوعية): نذكركم بموعد المقابلات الأسبوعية مع معلمات اللغة العربية، وستقوم معلمة طفلكم بالتواصل معكم عبر منصاتنا المعتمدة لإعلامكم بموعد هذه المقابلات، لذلك لا تترددوا في السؤال و الاستفسار عن كل ما يهمكم ويصب في مصلحة طلبتنا.
خيارات السنة التاسعة بالمرحلة الثانوية: سيحضر طلبة الصف التاسع الحصص التجريبية بيوم الأربعاء الموافق 24 فبراير. وهذه الحصص مخصصة لعرض خيارات المواد الدراسية على الطلبة، وإعطائهم الفرصة لأخذ نبذة عن المواد الدراسية التي من الممكن أن يختاروا منها ما سيدرسونه بالمرحلة الدراسية الرئيسية الرابعة. وسيتم مشاركتكم برابط خاص باختيار المواد الدراسية بعد إتمام الحصص التجريبية.
ولطلبة المرحلة الثانوية، إلغاء اختبارات الشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي والمستوى أ بالمملكة المتحدة: سيكون طلبة الصف الحادي عشر – الثاني عشر وأولياء أمورهم على علم بالقرار الذي اتخذته حكومة المملكة المتحدة بخصوص إلغاء اختبارات الشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي والمستوى أ لهذا العام، والاستعاضة عنهم باختبارات تقيمية بديلة تُجري من قبل المعلمين. ويرى منكم الاطلاع على الوارد أدناه للحصول على المزيد من التفاصيل.
Whole School (Mid-Term Break): We wish all students a relaxing mid-term break and look forward to seeing all learners, those onsite and online, back to school on Sunday 21st February. Parents should please remember to contact the relevant Head of School if they wish to change their education model after the break.
Whole-School (Requesting to Change Educational Models): Leaders and teachers work hard to accommodate our learners in either our on-site or remote learning models. This blended model is in place to both ensure the continuity of learning in the event of positive cases and cater for parent preferences during this uncertain time. Please see below for more details about our school systems for managing this process.
Whole-School Health and Safety: We request any families who are planning to travel out of the UAE to complete the DHA travel declaration https://www.dha.gov.ae/en/Pages/coronaregistration.aspx and add staysafe_gns@gemsedu.com as the email when prompted
Whole School (School Photographs): Individual student images are now available for parents to view and purchase via Stu Williamson Photography. Class photos will be released at a later date following the makeup session scheduled for Sunday 21st February.
Whole School (Re-enrolment): We are pleased to announce that the re-enrolment process for your children began on Sunday 7th February. You will receive an email directly for the enrolments team with a simple form to complete with your intention. Completing this form now really does help us to secure your place at GNS for the academic year beginning September 2021 and confirms that your place is not available to offer to new students. In the last two years we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of our parents choosing to stay at GNS and thank you all for your ongoing support. Please do reach out to our admissions team if you have any questions.
Foundation Stage (Times of the Day): From Sunday 21st February, the FS2 day will finish at 1.50pm. There will continue to be an optional early finish of 12:00pm for parents who prefer this option. FS2 students can join our sibling supervision club until 2:30pm if they have an older sibling in the school who stays for Period 6 or in Secondary. FS2 bus times are either 12:00pm or 2:55pm.
Primary (Period 6 Attendance Onsite): A reminder to email class teachers if they would like their child to participate in the P6 session in school. Pick-up for those attending P6 is from 2.40 pm until 3 pm. Please arrive to collect your child on time. For those not attending P6 onsite, pick up is from 2 pm to 2.20 pm. Pupils return to class at 2.20 pm, should they not have been collected and return for the 2.40pm pick up.
Primary (weekly meetings): We would like to remind you of our weekly meetings with your child’s Arabic language teachers. Your child's teacher will contact you through our approved platforms to inform you of the date of these meetings. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have during the meetings.
Secondary (Year 9 Options): Year 9 Students will attend taster sessions on Wednesday 24th February. This is designed to introduce students to the option courses of study, allowing them to get a taste of options subjects they may choose to study in Key Stage 4. A link will be shared to select options after we complete taster sessions.
Secondary (UK GCSE and A Level Examinations): Students and Parents in Years 11-12 will now be aware that international exam boards have now made the decision to cancel this year's GCSE and A Level examinations and replace them with an alternative form of teacher assessment. Please see below for further details.
Mars
لقد احتفلنا بهذا الأسبوع بأول مهمة إماراتية إلى كوكب المريخ بيوم الثلاثاء الماضي. حيث كنا في غاية الفخر بهذا الحدث الجليل، وأردنا الاحتفال به بطريقتنا الخاصة والمميزة. وقد وضع فريق عمل قسم العلوم بالمدرسة مجموعة من مشاريع STEM المثيرة حتى يشترك بها كل طلبتنا، وبالفعل اشتركوا جميعًا بها. وكان هذا اليوم حافلًا بالأعمال الإبداعية المميزة المليئة بالأفكار الابتكارية.
وخلال مناقشاتنا بهذا اليوم التاريخي، قال المعلم/ تابثا ديكسون، رئيس قسم العلوم بالمرحلة الابتدائية:
"للاحتفال بوصول مسبار الأمل لمدار كوكب المريخ، تطرقنا إلى مهمتنا الخاصة لكوكب المريخ. فقد فكرنا في كيفية وصولنا إلى هناك، وكيفية إجراءنا للأبحاث العلمية لإطلاق صواريخنا الخاصة. واستمتع الأطفال بدعمهم لبعضهم البعض، واقترحوا بعض الطرق التي يمكننا من خلالها تعديل وتطوير ارتفاع الصاروخ؛ وبعض هذه الطرق كانت أكثر نجاحًا من غيرها! وفي الأقسام الأخرى في المرحلة الابتدائية، استخدم أطفالنا Scratch لترميز الرحلات حول المريخ للروبوت المتواجد على الشاشة. وكانت هناك روحًا من البهجة والسعادة بجميع أنحاء المدرسة، وأحب الأطفال استخدام التطبيقات الإبداعية لتنمية فهمهم لمهمة مسبار الأمل. كما تم تقديم بعض الأعمال الفنية الرائعة بالمدرسة. ابتداءً من التخطيط والرسم إلى عمل النماذج والبناء، فنحن بالتأكيد لن ننسى فعاليات هذا اليوم أبدًا!
وبالمرحلة التأسيسية، تحمس أطفالنا كثيرًا ليوم كوكب المريخ. وشاركوا بالعديد من الأنشطة الرائعة لأجل اكتشاف المزيد حول ماهية كوكب المريخ ومسبار الأمل. كما استمتعوا بالبحث من خلال مختلف الوسائط ليكونوا رؤيتهم الخاصة بسطح المريخ. وعلاوة على ذلك، كنا نتمتع بالمهارات الفنية والتقنية في المرحلة التأسيسية: حيث ساعدنا ودعمنا الأطفال في استخدامهم لتطبيق Quiver لبث الحياة لرسوماتهم الخاصة بالأشياء التي من الممكن أن يجدوها على كوكب المريخ، واستخدموا الخلفية الخضراء للعب دور السير على كوكب المريخ مع انعدام الجاذبية! لقد استمتعنا جميعًا بهذا اليوم العظيم!"
وواصلنا تناول موضوع التعلم عن كوكب المريخ بالمرحلة الثانوية، حيث كُلف الطلبة بمهمة تصميم وعمل صواريخ فضاء من نقطة الصفر. وكان على الطلبة أن يضمنوا تصميم هذه الصواريخ بطريقة ديناميكية هوائية حتى تتسنى لنا الفرصة لأن نتمكن من إطلاق صواريخنا. وكانت بعض الارتفاعات التي وصلوا إليها في تصاميمهم تتمتع بكونها هائلة وكبيرة. فمن الممكن أن يكون هناك أحد صواريخ طلبة مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية يحلق في مدار كوكب المريخ بينما نحن نتحدث إليكم الآن في هذه اللحظة.
واشترك الطلبة في نشاط آخر وهو تصميم مركبة فضائية (تحمل بيضة) قادرة على الهبوط من ارتفاع 30 قدم دون إحداث أي ضرر بها أو كسر للبيضة! وهذه التقنية غالبًا ما اُستخدمت عند حاجة سفن الفضاء إلى توصيل آلات ومعدات إلى سطح المريخ. وللمرة الثانية، صمم طلبتنا مركباتهم الفضائية الخاصة، ورسموا المخططات وشرحوا استخدامهم للمواد الداخلة في تصاميمهم. وبعد ذلك قام الطلبة بتصميم وإعداد مركباتهم الفضائية استنادًا إلى المخططات وملاحظات المعلمين. واشتملت المركبات الفضائية على المظلات والمناطق الممتصة للصدمات وسبل الحماية 360 درجة لأجل حماية المركبات ضد الارتدادات القوية والدائرية.
وقد استمتع الطلبة بتصميمهم لهذه المركبات الفضائية، وإظهار شغفهم العلمي، وإبداعهم وابتكارهم في اتخاذ القرارات. وأنا في غاية الفخر بنتائج هذا المشروع، وأتمنى أن يكون هذا اليوم شرارة كافية للشغف الطلابي الفكري حتى يفكروا يومًا ما بالعمل في مجال الفلك. فمن يدري، لعل المهندس أو رائد الفضاء الإماراتي القادم يكون طالبًا لدينا بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية.

This week we celebrated the UAE’s first mission to Mars on Tuesday. We were extremely proud of this important event and wanted to mark it in our own special way. The Science team put together a range of exciting STEM projects for all students to engage with and engage they did. The day was filled with excitement and creativity with some ingenious ideas.
Discussing the momentous day our Primary Science Lead Teacher Tabatha Dickson said;
“To celebrate the arrival of the Hope Probe into Mars’ orbit, we went on our very own mission to Mars. We thought about how we would get there and conducted science investigations to launch our very own rockets. The children enjoyed supporting each other and suggesting ways in which we could improve the height of the rocket; some were more successful than others! In other parts of the Primary section, children were using Scratch to code journeys around Mars for an on screen robot. There was a real buzz around school and the children loved using innovative apps to develop their understanding about the Hope Probe. There was also some fantastic artwork produced across the school. From sketching and painting to modelling and building, we certainly will not forget this event any time soon!
In the Foundation stage, children were super excited about Mars day. They took part in some fantastic activities to explore what Mars and the Hope Probe looked like. They also enjoyed investigating with different mediums to create their own interpretation of the surface of Mars. In addition, we were very technical in FS: children were supported in using the Quiver App to bring to life their own drawings of what they might find on Mars and used a green screen to role-play walking on Mars with no gravity! A great day was had by all!”
The Mars themed learning continued in Secondary where our students were tasked with designing and building their own space rockets from scratch. Students had to ensure that they were aerodynamically designed because we were fortunate enough to be able to launch our rockets. Some of the heights that they achieved were tremendous. There may even be one of our GNS rockets orbiting Mars as we speak.
The other activity students were engaged with was to build a Lander (holding an egg) capable of being dropped from 30 feet without being damaged or breaking the egg! This is the technology often used when spaceships need to deliver machines to the surface of Mars. Once again, students designed their own landers, sketching out blueprints and explaining the use of the materials involved. Students then engineered these landers based on blueprints and teacher feedback. Landers included parachutes, crumple zones and 360-degree protection in order to protect against rough and rolling bounces.
Students had a great time building these spacecrafts, showing scientific curiosity and creativity in their decisions. I am extremely proud of the product of this project and hope that this day can spark the intellectual curiosity of our students enough so that they think about careers in Astrophysics. Who knows, we may even have the next Emirati engineer or astronaut right here at GNS.

خليفة المهيري – السنة التاسعة BB- وهو يعمل على صاروخه "بعد قيامي بهذا النشاط الممتع، شعرت وكأنني صممت صاروخًا حقيقيًا. وكان أفضل وقت بهذا اليوم، هو عندما أطلقت صاروخي بعد أن قضيت الكثير من الوقت وبذلت الكثير من الجهد لأجل تصميمه وبناءه"
Khalifa Al Mheiri in 9BB while building his rocket - "After doing this fun activity, I felt like building a real rocket. The best part about my day was launching the rocket after spending my time and effort building it. I had some issues getting the nose of my cone to sit straight, but once I did, it became aerodynamic. I really enjoyed this type of task, where I was able to use my brain and my hands together.”
ليبا – السنة التاسعة GB – قامت بعمل طوربيد ديناميكي هوائي لصاروخها. وقالت: "لقد استمتعت بكل خطواتي في هذا المشروع. واستمتعت برؤية تحول أفكاري من مجرد كتابات على ورق إلى شيء حقيقي"
Liba in 9GB, creating an aerodynamic nosecone for her rocket. “I enjoyed the steps of the project. I enjoyed seeing my ideas on paper then turned into something real. I would have liked more time to extend this project as I really felt like it has helped me. We are currently studying Astrophysics in Science and I have a real appreciated for the technology that goes into spacecrafts.”

Khalifa Alrais - 1BA - “ I enjoying making my own Hope probe. It’s going to take pictures of Mars. It took me a long time to make but I had some help. I looked at lots of pictures of the Hope probe before I made my own. I want to hang it up in my teacher’s class so I can see it every day.

علي والجي – الروضة الأولى ب – يضيف الدعامات للجزء الخلفي من صاروخه. أحببت صنع الصاروخ ، وأود صنع صاروخ أكبر بكثير للذهاب إلى المريخ.

يا له من أسبوع حافل بالفعاليات العلمية بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية. فعلاوة على احتفالنا بالمهمة الإماراتية للمريخ بيوم الثلاثاء، احتفلنا أيضًا في يوم الخميس باليوم العالمي للمرأة والفتاة بمجالات العلوم. فنحن محظوظون لوجود خمس نساء رائعات بقسم العلوم لدينا، ولذلك حظينا بفرصة رائعة ليست فقط لتكريم بناتنا بقسم العلوم، ولكن أيضًا لتكريم نسائنا العاملات به. فقبل أن تعمل المعلمة/ منى بمجال التدريس، كانت تعمل كفيزيائية بمجال الحماية من الإشعاع، وقمنا بمشاركة مسيرتها بكونها امرأة عربية مسلمة عملت لفترة بالمجال العلمي. كما شاركنا أيضًا نجاحات ومسيرات نساء أخريات بالفريق العلمي بمدرستنا، وكيف قادتهن مسيرتهن العلمية للعمل بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية.
وبعد ذلك جاء دور الطلبة، حيث تم إعطاؤهن مهمة عرض دور النساء الملهمات بحياتهم. فمن الممكن أن يكن أحد أفراد عائلاتهن العاملات بالمجال العلمي، أو أحد العالمات الشهيرات بالمجال ذاته. كما سعينا لمعرفة رؤية بناتنا بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية للعالمات، وتأثيرهن على حياة ومستقبل طالبتنا. كما زودنا "العرض المدرسي" للعلماء بمقالات وصور وعروض تقديمية عن نساء عظيمات لهن عظيم الأثر على بناتنا بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية.
وتمتعنا بعد ذلك ببعض الأنشطة الترفيهية. واستعان الطلبة والمعلمون بتقنية فيديوهات التيك توك لعمل فيديوهات حول تحول بناتنا إلى عالمات. فاحرصوا على الاطلاع على هذه الفيديوهات بصفحاتنا على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي.
فقد كان هذا الأسبوع بالفعل أسبوعًا حافلًا واستثنائيًا بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية. فمن المهم أن ترى عالماتنا الصغيرات أنفسهن في هذه الأدوار الهامة. فالعديد من النساء قمن بتمهيد الطريق لغيرهن، مثل: كامالا هاريس، بعملها كنائب رئيس الولايات المتحدة، وجريتا ثنبرج بعملها كناشطة سياسية، وكاتي بومان وهي العالمة الأولى التي وضعت خوارزمية لتصوير الثقب الأسود. فكل هؤلاء النساء وغيرهن كن انطلاقة عظيمة اليوم لطالباتنا ليعلمن أنه من خلال العمل الجاد والمتفاني، سيتمكنن هن الأخريات من وضع بصماتهن على العالم العلمي بشكل لم يسبق له مثيل.
What a busy week for Science here at GNS. As well as the Emirates Mars Mission on Tuesday, we celebrated International Women’s And Girls In Science day on Thursday. We are lucky to have five amazing women in our Science department so this was a great opportunity to honour not only our girls in science, but our women too. Before becoming a teacher our very own Miss Mona worked as a Radiation Protection Physicist and we shared her journey as an Arab Muslim woman who has been in scientific field for some time. We also shared the history of other women in the Science team and how their journey led them to GNS.
Next was the students’ turn. Students were given the task of presenting women in their lives who have inspired them. This could have been a family member in the field or a famous female scientist. We really wanted to know how the girls at GNS see female scientists and the impact these scientists have had on their lives and their futures. This ‘Show and Tell’ of scientists provided us with articles, presentations and pictures of some great women connected to the girls here at GNS.
We followed that with some modern day fun. Students and teachers used the theme of TikTok videos to create videos showing the transition of girls into women in science. Be sure to look out for the video on our social media.
It was a truly remarkable week here at GNS. It is important that our young female scientists can seem themselves in these positions of importance. So many women have come have paved the way, whether it be Heads of State in Kamala Harris, political activists in Greta Thunberg or Astrophysicist in Katie Bouman who was the first scientist to develop an algorithm for imaging black holes. With these women and many more, it is a great springboard for the girls of today to know that with enough hard work, they too can make an impact on the world of science like never before.

نحن في غاية الفخر في مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية بالطبيعة المتنوعة والمختلفة لمجتمعنا وطلبتنا وعائلاتنا وفريق عملنا، ونود أن ننتهز هذه الفرصة بهذا العام للاحتفال بكل اللغات الأم التي نتحدثها جميعًا.
حيث يعد يوم الأحد الموافق 21 فبراير هو اليوم العالمي للغة الأم وفقًا لمنظمة اليونيسكو، وكجزء من احتفالنا بهذا اليوم نرجو من طلبتنا ومعلمينا القيام بما يلي:

# معا في شهر الابتكار – فبراير 2021#
انتهجت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة منذ نشأتها، سياسة التوفيق بين الحداثة والأصالة، فحرصت على الإبداع والخروج عن المألوف في كافة مجالاتها الثقافية والعلمية، وفي تسيير أعمال مؤسّساتها ودوائرها الحكومية، وتُرجمت هذه السياسة في العديد من المحافل والمجالات، حيث أقامت حكومة الإمارات المبادرات المتنوعة لتحفيز الابتكار لدى الأفراد والمؤسّسات
في عام 2014 تم تأسيس مركز متخصّص بهذا الشأن، هو مركز محمد بن راشد للابتكار الحكومي، والذي يهدف إلى تشجيع ثقافة الابتكار في القطاع الحكومي لتطوير العمل بشكل يضمن لحكومة الإمارات أن تصبح ضمن الحكومات الأكثر ابتكاراً وتجدّداً على مستوى العالم .
وتحرص مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية على دعم طلابها للاستفادة من هذا الشهر وإعداد الأعمال الابتكارية المتنوعة في جميع المواد ومنها مادة اللغة العربية ، فسيقوم طلاب المرحلة الثانوية خلال الأيام القادمة بإعداد أعمال ابتكارية من صنعهم تخدم لغتهم العربية ، وتمّ إعداد رابط خاص لعرض الأعمال عليه ، وسيتم متابعة الأعمال مع الطلبة ومساعدتهم لإنتاج أعمال جيدة ، منها على سبيل المثال:
-إعداد مجسمات تعليمية هادفة ، إعداد مطويات ، تصميم شعارات هادفة ، إعداد معجم لغوي مبسط بوسائل بسيطة مبتكرة ، تأليف كتابات خاصة ( كقصص ، أشعار ......) تدعو للابتكار ، التحدث باللغة العربية عن أعمال نفذوها في المواد الأخرى .
-وضع حلول ابتكارية لمعالجة بعض الصعوبات التي تواجههم أثناء تعلم اللغة العربية .
وسنشارككم أهم إنجازات طلابنا خلال هذه الفترة ، نأمل دعمكم الدائم لأبنائنا الطلبة وتشجيعهم على المشاركة الهادفة .

Since its founding, the UAE has pursued a drive combining modernity and tradition, bringing creativity and innovation to all cultural and scientific fields; and across government departments and institutions. This drive has been reflected in many forums and fields, as the UAE government has led many various initiatives to promote innovation in individuals and institutions.
In 2014, a specialized center was established in this regard, the Mohammed Bin Rashed Center for Government Innovation, which aims to enhance innovation in the governmental sector in order to improve work in a way that ensures a place for the UAE government among the most innovative governments around the world.
GNS is committed to supporting students in order to benefit from the events of this month and to develop their own innovative work promoting the Arabic language. We also have created a link online for students’ work and will provide our students with support and follow up finding innovative solutions to tackle the challenges they face in learning Arabic.
We will share the most significant achievements of our students with you, and you are kindly requested to support and encourage our students to participate in this initiative.

يعد الإنترنت جزءا لا يتجزأ من حياتنا، وهو مصدر هام ومهم لمعلوماتنا جميعًا. ومع تطور الوسائل التكنولوجية الحديثة، فقد أصبحت إتاحة وسهولة الوصول إلى الإنترنت أمرًا عاديًا معتادًا من حياة الأطفال والشباب. ومن الضروري أن نفعل كل ما بوسعنا لضمان الاستخدام الآمن للإنترنت، وأن نعمل معًا جميعًا بشأن قضية السلامة الإلكترونية.

The internet is an integral part of our lives and an important and useful resource for all of us. With the development of new technologies, its availability and easy access has become a normal part of the lives of children and young adults. It is vital that we do all that we can to ensure the safe use of the internet and all work together on the issue of e-safety.
On Tuesday, 9th February our GNS community supported the celebrated 18th edition of Safer Internet Day with a theme once again of "Together for a better internet".
On this day, our students took part in the ‘THINK’ challenge and contributed their thoughts towards having a better digital community.

لقد حظينا بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية بأسبوع رائعًا لاحتفالات مهرجان طيران الإمارات للآداب.
فبقسم اللغة العربية بالمرحلة الابتدائية، حضر طلبتنا حصة دراسية رائعة لبث الحياة بالكتب مع فاطمة البريكي. وقد تعلم طلبة المرحلة الثانوية الكثير عن فيروس كورونا، وكيفية تصدي دولة الإمارات لهذه الجائحة، والاستعداد للأحداث المستقبلية مع نافع الياسي.
Across the school, GNS have had a fantastic week celebrating the Emirates Literature Festival.
In Primary Arabic, students had a great session bringing books to life with Fatima Albraiky. Secondary Arabic learnt more about the Coronavirus and how the UAE are fighting the pandemic and preparing for future events with Nafea Al Yassi.

In Science, students continued their innovative learning by taking part in an Exploring the Elements session with Isabel Thomas.
وبقسم اللغة الإنجليزية بالمرحلة الثانوية، شاركونا الطلبة بحبهم لتاريخ الإمارات العربية المتحدة من خلال المشاركة في الحصة الخاصة برواية The Pearl Diver’s Son، مع صديقة مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية/ جوليا جونسون والاخصائي علي السويدي، ورأينا كيف تم نسج عملية بناء برج خليفة في أحداث الرواية التي ألفها علي سباركس. كما أدى طلبة الآداب عرضًا مباشرًا لرواية ماكبث من مسرج جلوب، لندن.

The Secondary English, students shared their love of the history of the UAE by taking part in The Pearl Diver’s Son session, with friend of GNS, Julia Johnson and Major Ali Al Suwaidi and saw how the construction of the Burj Khalifa was woven into an action packed novel by Ali Sparkes. Literature students got to experience Macbeth in a live performance from The Globe Theatre, London.

مهرجان الإمارات للآداب
حرصا منا على مساهمة طلابنا في الأنشطة الهادفة التي تدعمها مؤسسات الدولة الرائدة ، حضر طلابنا في المرحلة الثانوية في حصص اللغة العربية هذا الأسبوع المحاضرة التي قدمها د/نافع الياسي حول ( هل نحن مستعدون لوباء أخطر من كورونا ؟ ) ، واستمتع الطلبة بالمعلومات القيمة التي استمعوا لها حول الرواية التي استعرض ملخصها الدكتور وهي تتحدث عن تاريخ بداية الفيروسات وانتشارها بين البشر ، وكيف علينا أن نحمي أنفسنا منها ؟ ، وبالفعل استفاد طلابنا من المادة العلمية القيمة التي عُرضت عليهم وطبقوا حول ذلك الأنشطة الممتعة ، ووضحوا ماذا تعلموا منها ؟ وتحدثوا عن تجربتهم مع وباء كورونا وألفوا القصص الجميلة حول ذلك ، وأعدوا الكتابات الإبداعية الرائعة
Emirati Airline festival of literature (Arabic)
As we are keen to make the students take a part in objective activities supported by UAE leading institutions, our students in the secondary stage have attended the session of Dr. Nafea Al Yasi about “Are we ready for a more dangerous epidemic than Covid-19?” during Arabic lessons. They enjoyed the valued information of the novel summarized by Dr. Nafea, talking about the history of the virus, how it spread, and what we should do in order to protect ourselves from it. Our students have profited and learned from this valued scientific material. Moreover, they have taken part in many amazing activities regarding this material, explained what they have learned from it, talked about their experiences with the Covid-19 epidemic through writing wonderful stories.

نشكر عائلاتنا الذين حضروا الأمسية المعلوماتية الخاصة بالشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي للصف التاسع. ونحن نأمل أن تكونوا قد استفدتم بالمعلومات التي قُدمت بهذه الأمسية، وأن تكونوا الآن أكثر جاهزية واستعدادا لاختيار مواد الشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي.
وبالأسبوع الماضي، طلبنا من طلبة الصف التاسع المشاركة في استبيان خاص بمشاركة رغباتهم المبدئية في المواد الدراسية التي يرغبون بدراستها بالشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي.
وسيقوم معلمو المواد الدراسية الاختيارية بعمل حصص تجريبية بيوم الأربعاء الموافق 24 فبراير. وسيشترك الطلبة بالأنشطة التجريبية للمواد الدراسية المقدمة من خلال مناهجنا التعليمية. وهذه الحصص هدفها تعريف الطلبة على المواد الدراسية الاختيارية، وإعطائهم الفرصة لمعرفة نبذة عن المواد المختلفة التي من الممكن أن يدرسوها في المرحلة التأسيسية الرابعة، إلى جانب طرحهم للأسئلة التي يرغبون في معرفة إجاباتها. ولهذه الحصص التجريبية واقع مؤثر على تطلعات الطلبة، وثقتهم بأنفسهم، وقدرتهم على اتخاذهم للقرارات بشكل مستقل.
وسنقوم بمشاركتكم برابط خاص باختيار المواد الدراسية عقب اكتمال الحصص التجريبية. والموعد النهائي لتقديم خيارات المواد الدراسية بالشهادة العامة للتعليم الثانوي سيكون بيوم الخميس الموافق 19 مارس، ومن خلال هذه العملية سنقوم بتوفير الدعم والتوجيه والإرشاد لكل طلبتنا
Thank you to our families who attended our Year 9 GCSE Information Evening. We hope that those who attended found the session informative and are more ready to select their GCSE choices.
Last week, Year 9 students were asked to participate in a survey in order to share their initial interests on subjects they would like to study for GCSE.
Option subject teachers will run taster sessions on Wednesday 24th February. Students will be engaged in subject taster activities delivered from our curriculum. This is designed to introduce students to the option courses of study, allowing them to get a taste of different subjects they could study in Key Stage 4 and ask questions. These taster sessions have a real impact on students' aspirations, independent decision making and confidence.
A link will be shared to select options after we complete taster sessions. The deadline for the submission of GCSE options will be Thursday 19th March, students will be guided and supported through this process.

يسعدنا تمديد ساعات اليوم الدراسي لمرحلة الروضة 2، حيث أنها ستمنحنا الفرصة للعب خارج الفصول الدراسية والتعلم من خلال اللعب. كما يسرنا الإعلان عن توفير حصص أسبوعية متخصصة للتربية الرياضية مع المعلمة/ كاتي. فكل هذا الأمور ستدعم وتشجع أطفالنا على عيش تجاربهم من خلال فطرتهم الحركية.
فحركة الأطفال تعد واحدة من الطرق الأربعة التي يتعلم الأطفال من خلالها. والطرق الأخرى تشمل اللعب والحديث والتجارب الحسية. وعن طريق الأنشطة المخطط لها بعناية، إلى جانب اتباع تدابير التصدي لفيروس كورونا المستجد، نحن نتطلع إلى تطوير ما هو أكثر من مهارات الحركة (الدقيقة والمتقنة)؛ زيادة التعاون والتنسيق؛ زيادة الوعي بشأن الجسم والتوازن؛ الركض للحفاظ على صحة أجسامنا وقلوبنا وباقي الأعضاء؛ وأيضًا حب التواجد بالهواء الطلق بالتأكيد!

We are delighted that with our extension to the FS2 day it gives us even more opportunities to play outside and learn through play. We are equally as delighted to announce that the children will have a specialist PE session each week with Miss Katie. All of this will provide and encourage the children to relive their experiences through their most natural channel – movement.
Movement is one of the four ways through which children can learn. The others are play, talk and sensory experiences. Through carefully planned activities, alongside careful covid measures, we look forward to developing even more our motor skills (gross and fine); developing co-ordination, balance and body awareness; running around to keeps our bodies, hearts and other organs healthy; and of course a love of being outside!
We look forward to sharing our experiences very soon.

إعادة التسجيل 2021-2022: يسرنا إعلامكم بفتح باب إعادة التسجيل لأطفالكم اعتبارًا من يوم الأحد الموافق 7 فبراير. وستستلمون بريدًا إلكترونيًا مباشرةً من فريق التسجيل بالمدرسة، مرفق معه نموذج بسيط لأجل إكماله وإبداء رغباتكم به. فإكمالكم لهذا النموذج يدعمنا في تأمين مكان لطفلكم في مدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية بالعام الدراسي الذي يبدأ بشهر سبتمبر 2021، وفي تأكيدنا على عدم إتاحة مقعد طفلكم إلى أطفال جدد. ففي العامين الماضيين، شهدنا زيادة كبيرة في أعداد أولياء الأمور الراغبين في البقاء بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية، فلكم منا جزيل الشكر على دعمكم الدائم لنا.

Re-Enrolment 2021-22: We are pleased to announce that the re-enrolment process for your children began on Sunday 7th February. You will receive an email directly for the enrolments team with a simple form to complete with your intention. Completing this form now really does help us to secure your place at GNS for the academic year beginning September 2021 and confirms that your place is not available to offer to new students. In the last two years we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of our parents choosing to stay at GNS and thank you all for your ongoing support.

نهديكم التحية من قسم اللغة العربية في المرحلة الابتدائية وكما وعدناكم في ابقائكم على اطلاع دائم بمستجداتنا. ما زلنا نسعى للتقدم والتطور وتقديم الأفضل لخدمة طلبتنا الأعزاء، ومن ضمن هذه التحسينات محاولاتنا الدؤوبة للبحث عن أفضل الوسائل التي تحبب اللغة العربية وتقربها لنفوس طلبتنا، ويأتي ذلك من خلال استخدام التكنولوجيا وتفعيلها في حصص اللغة العربية بشكل أكبر، لذلك قمنا بتفعيل برنامج “Nearpod" لجعل عملية التعلم ممتعة وتفاعلية أكثر، وقد قمنا بتجربة عملية هذا الأسبوع استمتع خلالها الطلبة بالدروس المقدمة، والعمل مع زملائهم من خلال هذه المنصة لمشاركة أفكارهم وتقييم أعمالهم.

Greetings from the Arabic Language Department in Primary! We strive to progress and develop in order to provide the very best for our students. To make the learning process more enjoyable and interactive, we have introduced a platform named “Nearpod” in which the students enjoy interactive lessons and work with their classmates to share their ideas and evaluate their work. Our aim is to develop our students’ skills to the highest levels.
Arabic Challenge Update
مبادرة ( تحدث بالعربية ) :
أنهى طلابنا في المرحلة الثانوية خلال الأيام الماضية مبادرة تحدث بالعربية بنجاح كبير، واستطاعوا البحث و الوصول للعديد من المعلومات الجديدة عن لغتهم العربية ، وصمموا فيديوهات رائعة وتحدثوا عنها بطلاقة وفخر بلغتهم لغة القرآن الكريم .
Initiative of (speak in Arabic):
In the secondary stage, our students have successfully completed the initiative of “speak in Arabic” during the last days. They made a lot of researches and collected new information about Arabic language. They also made some amazing videos in which they talked fluently and proudly about their language, the language of the Holy Quran.
GNS Secondary Spelling Bee

يعمل طلبتنا بالصف السابع – العاشر على تعلم كلمات جديدة مليئة بالتحديات لأجل مسابقة التهجئة بمدرسة جيمس البرشاء الوطنية لعام 2021. وقد تمت مشاركة الطلبة بقائمة تضم 100 كلمة إلى جانب مهمة تعلم معانيها وتهجئتها. وسيشارك طلبتنا المتعلمون عن بعد والمتعلمون بالحرم المدرسي في الجولات الأربعة لمسابقة التهجئة.
Students from years 7-10 are ‘buzz-ee’ learning some challenging words for the GNS 2021 ‘Spelling Bee’.
A list of 100 words have been shared with students with the task of learning spellings and meanings. Both remote learners and in school learners will be taking part in the 4 round competition.

ولمن لم يحصلوا على نتيجة فحص سلبية لاختبار PCR بصلاحية 48 ساعة، سيتعين عليهم دخول برنامج التعلم عن بعد لمدة 10 أيام من تاريخ وصولهم. وسيتسنى للطلبة الخاليين من الأعراض المرضية العودة إلى المدرسة بعد إكمال فترة 10 أيام.
وبالنسبة للطلبة الراغبين في استئناف تلقي العملية التعليمية بالحرم المدرسي دون إكمال فترة الحجر الصحي وقدرها 10 أيام، سيتعين عليهم إحضار نتيجة فحص سلبية لاختبار PCR بصلاحية 48 ساعة.
وتكون نتائج فحص اختبار PCR سارية لمدة 48 ساعة فقط من تاريخ ظهور النتيجة. ويمكن عمل هذا الفحص بمطار دبي أو بأي مرفق معتمد تابع لهيئة الصحة بدبي داخل إمارة دبي.
خاص بالطلبة الذين لم يسافروا خارج البلاد
يمكنكم العودة إلى المدرسة طالما لا تعانون من أعراض مرضية، ولم تتواصلوا مع حالة إيجابية مصابة بالفيروس، ولم تتلقوا نتيجة إيجابية لفحص اختبار كورونا ومازلتم بفترة العزل.

نحث أطفالنا ذوي الظروف الصحية الخاصة باعتبارهم أكثر عرضة للإصابة بالفيروس على الانضمام لبرنامج التعلم عن بعد.

Returning to School after the Half Term Break
In order to ensure the continuous wellbeing of our community (parents, students and staff) and to reduce the spread of COVID-19 infection, all families who travel out of the UAE over the half term break are required to, and have a responsibility to, declare their recent history of travel and health status.

Students who have travelled
All students who have returned from travel abroad require a negative PCR test with a 48-hour validity, in order to resume learning at school. Please share a copy of the result with your class teacher / form tutor and our team at staysafe_gns@gemsedu.com
Students who do not have a negative PCR test result with a 48-hour validity will be required to access distance learning for 10 days from their arrival date. Please observe for any symptoms during this period. Students should return symptom free to school after full completion of 10 days.
Students who would like to resume on-campus learning without completing their 10-day quarantine, should produce a negative PCR result within a 48-hour validity.
PCR test results are valid for 48 hours only from the date of result. The PCR test may be completed at Dubai airport or any approved DHA facility within the emirate of Dubai.
Students who have not travelled
You may return to school as long as you are symptom free and have not had contact with a positive case nor received a positive result and still in isolation.
Students with allergies & medical conditions
Children with medical conditions that are considered a high risk are encouraged to join the school via remote learning.
COVID-19 Updates and Information
We wish all of our families a happy, safe and restful break. Whilst it is the school holiday, please note that our Health and Safety will be present in school next week. They are there to support and advise you for any queries you may have.
Families are urged to inform us if your child or anyone in your household has tested positive, from there we can work to support and guide on next steps, focusing on the safety of your family and of our wider school community. At the end of last year, we launched the GEMS Jewels of Kindness program which seeks to exemplify students exhibiting core values including compassion, kindness, respect, helpfulness and empathy.
The aim of this program is to emphasize the importance of values education to help our children become better world citizens.
