Hello! My name is Markia Peters and I am the theatre director at Griffin Middle School! I am originally from McKinney, TX and I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with an EC-12 teacher certification. During my time at TWU, I was a member of my scholarship organization President's Leadership Council and I was a student leader for 3 years for my campus ministry Fellowship of Christian University Students (FOCUS). I also had the pleasure of completing my student teaching here in Lewisville ISD at Flower Mound High School and at Lamar Middle School!
I've had a passion for theatre for almost my entire life! I've had such a deep desire to create through the theatrical art form, but I wasn't very glued to one specific aspect of theatre. In high school, I was given the opportunity to be a part of a program called "Ready Set Teach". It was there that I Iearned about my passion for teaching. I was able to shadow 4 different second-grade classrooms and I fell in love with the students. I knew then that teaching was something I was called to do. Through lots of thought and discussion, I decided to combine both of my passions and not only teach but teach theatre! My goal as a teacher is to give my students a creative outlet to express themselves, encourage each other, and create a safe community. I want to showcase what it means to love my students well.
I am very excited for my third year of teaching theatre! I guarantee you I will not be perfect and will make many mistakes, but my mission is not to be a perfect theatre director. Instead, my goal is to create a positive environment for students who want to explore what it means to be a part of a close-knit group of people who care for each other and respect the arts!
