A comprehensive three-day training workshop on the Koha Library Management System was successfully organized at the Central Library from 9th to 11th April 2025. This intensive programme was designed to enhance the digital proficiency of library professionals in managing modern library resources.
Resource Person: The sessions were led by Mr. Satheesh K. M., UGC Librarian, a renowned expert in library automation. His deep technical knowledge and hands-on teaching approach provided participants with a thorough understanding of the Koha interface and database management.
Inauguration: The training was officially inaugurated by the College Principal, who emphasized the importance of transitioning to open-source software like Koha to streamline library services and improve accessibility for students and faculty.
Leadership & Coordination: The programme was spearheaded by Mrs. Shyla P. K., Senior Grade Librarian, whose leadership played a vital role in the successful execution of the event. The entire Central Library staff worked in close coordination to manage the logistics and technical requirements of the three-day event.
The workshop saw active participation from librarians representing various Higher Education Colleges across Kerala. This diverse gathering allowed for a productive exchange of ideas and professional experiences regarding the challenges and best practices of library automation in the state's academic sector.
The training covered essential modules of the Koha software, including:
Cataloging and bibliographic control.
Circulation management (Issue/Return/Renewals).
Patron management and reporting.
OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) customization for better user experience.
