Library Extension Programs

The professional workshop "Basics of Jamovi Software" is being held today, January 28, 2026, at the Central Library of Government Medical College (GMC) Kottayam. Organized by the Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with the Central Library and the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), the event is patronized by Principal Dr. Varghese P. Punnoose and Dr. Sujatha MB. Following the inauguration by the Principal In-charge  Dr. Gino Abraham at 11:00 AM, the technical sessions begin with an introduction to the software provided by Ms. Bindu G, the Chief Librarian.

The workshop aims to equip 20 participants with hands-on training in high-quality statistical analysis to enhance research clarity. Key sessions led by Dr. Dhanya Sasidharan Palappallil will cover essential topics, including:

• Descriptive Statistics

• Chi-square tests for associations

• Correlation analysis

• t-tests for significance

The program will conclude at 4:00 PM following a formal assessment and certification process.

Three-Day Training Programme on Koha Library Management System

A comprehensive three-day training workshop on the Koha Library Management System was successfully organized at the Central Library from 9th to 11th April 2025. This intensive programme was designed to enhance the digital proficiency of library professionals in managing modern library resources.

Key Highlights of the Programme

• Resource Person: The sessions were led by Mr. Satheesh K. M., UGC Librarian,  a renowned expert in library automation. His deep technical knowledge and hands-on teaching approach provided participants with a thorough understanding of the Koha interface and database management.

• Inauguration: The training was officially inaugurated by the College Principal, who emphasized the importance of transitioning to open-source software like Koha to streamline library services and improve accessibility for students and faculty.

• Leadership & Coordination: The programme was spearheaded by Mrs. Shyla P. K., Senior Grade Librarian, whose leadership played a vital role in the successful execution of the event. The entire Central Library staff worked in close coordination to manage the logistics and technical requirements of the three-day event.

Participant Profile

The workshop saw active participation from librarians representing various Higher Education Colleges across Kerala. This diverse gathering allowed for a productive exchange of ideas and professional experiences regarding the challenges and best practices of library automation in the state's academic sector.

Training Focus

The training covered essential modules of the Koha software, including:

1. Cataloging and bibliographic control.

2. Circulation management (Issue/Return/Renewals).

3. Patron management and reporting.

4. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) customization for better user experience.
