Movie ends but the legacy continues Marvel Studios, in 2019, came out with a movie that has been regarded over time as one of the most iconic films in recent cinema history: Avengers: Endgame. Joseph and Anthony Russo are the directors of the Endgame movie that was released in the year 2019. Apart from being an action-thriller with superheroes, Endgame is a film that contains lots of feelings. It is one of those movies where we adore some of our heroes but feel that they are being pushed against the wall both in violence and emotions. One would imagine that 3 hours is way too long for most films especially an action film but there is action, intensity, loss, laughter, and relief for each second. It is not only the end of the story; it is the climax of emotions, thoughts and hopes of all the people who had been growing with this universe for more than ten years. Also, let’s consider a simple question that lies at the core of Endgame. Who fights, why, and who gets salvation in the end? The Aftermath of The Snap The first scene of Endgame brings you back to where Infinity War leaves you, or rather, five years forward in time from the tragic episode affectionately called ‘The Snap.’ More out of disappointment than surprise, Thanos the Mad Titan achieved his primary evil goal with the snap of his fingers. The opening scene hits hard: Hawkeye, who wasn’t in Infinity War, is spending a lovely day with his wife's family, and not knowing the now upcoming horror scene. Second, as a viewer, the shock on his face is a reflection of the sadness in the pit of our stomach when we are again recalled the magnitude of our loss. The world is broken. So are its heroes. The Avengers are still trying to pick up themselves up from where they fell, wandering all over the place. Nebula and Tony Stark - Iron Man - float lonely in space, losing hope day by day. Steve Rogers - Captain America - finds himself leading a grief support group where everyone is trying to find something-any kind of purpose-to support his efforts as well to subdue his overwhelming sadness. Desperate to keep the team together, Black Widow keeps in contact with the scattered heroes throughout the universe. Yet, in every scene, the anguish is clear: Thor has retreated and turned into a chubby hermit, immersed in drink and video games because he did not "go for the head" when he had the opportunity. He also found a way to coexist in himself and The Hulk by merging into "Professor Hulk," a physically powerful but emotionally mellow hybrid of man and monster. But it's Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, who seemingly by accident gives them a way to hope. Imprisoned in the quantum realm by the events of Ant-Man and The Wasp, Scott somehow mysteriously breaks free and what he thought was five hours has been five years on the outside world. He then splits off to the remaining Avengers and makes an audacious proposal: time travel. The Time Heist The theory is simple: back to key moments in time throughout history, when the Infinity Stones were all in one location, collect them, and bring them forward into the present. In this way, they can undo the Snap without disturbing the course of past events too much. Time travel is always fraught with difficulty in narrative but Endgame manages it with great wit and fun. As the Avengers prepare for their "Time Heist," they reflect back on their own cinematic history. They revisit iconic moments from earlier films, giving us that sweet nostalgic payoff. Included in this is the Battle of New York from The Avengers (2012), where Steve Rogers gets to fight a past version of himself in a stunning and symbolic clash of old versus new. The Avengers diverge into teams: Tony, Steve, Bruce, and Scott return to New York in 2012 to get the Time, Space, and Mind Stones. Thor and Rocket head to Asgard in 2013 (during the events of Thor: The Dark World) to get the Reality Stone. Clint (Hawkeye) and Natasha (Black Widow) head out to Vormir. Obviously, they know that acquiring the Soul Stone comes with a price that they may not be psychologically ready for. Meanwhile, in other parts of the cosmos, Nebula and Rhodey (War Machine) head to Morag to collect the Power Stone from Peter Quill before he becomes Star-Lord. Each mission is so full of suspense, humor, and some of the most character-driven moments of the MCU. Tony is given the opportunity to see his father, Howard Stark, in a beautiful warm-hearted scene that gives him closure he never knew he needed. Thor, still thrashing in guilt and depression, finds himself in a touching reunion with his mother, Frigga, who shares wisdom that also lets him know failure can't define him. Ever the leader, Steve Rogers gets his lighter moment in the movie as he whispers "Hail Hydra" to avoid a fight with undercover Hydra agents. Natasha and Clint's journey to Vormir, though, is the emotional climax of this film. The Soul Stone has demanded a sacrifice: a soul for a soul. And so, through unbearable battle of wills-the notion that each character has to kill himself to save the other leads to Natasha's success in giving her life. Her death is probably one of the most gigantic parts of the film, remembering heroism comes with a steep price. The Battle with Thanos Conclusion Gathering all the stones and putting them back into the present, Avengers create their own Infinity Gauntlet. As Bruce Banner and his physical power merged with gamma radiation, he offers to use the Gauntlet for undoing the Snap. And they indeed succeed. Everyone lost five years ago is brought back into life, though none of them have any idea that time passed. But of course, in a plot twist they hadn't accounted for, past Nebula was still loyal to Thanos, and had taken the modern Nebula's place while he pulled off the time heist. She uses the Avengers' quantum portal to bring Thanos and his army from the past into the present. That was followed by an epic, jaw-dropping battle that can only be described as the culmination of 22 interconnected films. Thanos, now knowing Avengers' intention to reverse his work, declared that this time, he will destroy not half of the universe but all of it and rebuild in his image. The fight is deadly as Thanos fights the original Avengers- Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America. For a minute, there seemed to be no hope. But then, with one of the most spine-tingling moments in cinema history, Captain America proves worthy enough to hold Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. The roar for Steve Rogers from the viewers has got him fighting Thanos to his godly strength. However, that's not enough to defeat the Mad Titan. Just when it seems like Thanos is going to walk away with the victory, the portals open, allowing every hero dusted in Infinity War to return, including Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, and countless others. The fight is aesthetics, every Avenger and hero coming together for a last stand against evil. Finalizing the battle, in the final heat is left for Iron Man to make a decision as he manages to swipe the Infinity Stones from Thanos's hand and finally the energy of sheer will communicates by sending Tony Stark, the man who started it all snapping away Thanos and his army, concluding the universe war. But the cost is too heavy: the outpouring of the energy kills Tony Stark. His death is the climax of a movie emotionally. The playboy, selfish, and arrogant man who began in 2008's Iron Man ends his journey as the ultimate hero, sacrificing himself for the greater good. It will be a quiet moment for everyone to reflect on at his funeral, gathered there as every major MCU character to pay their respects. The Aftermath and Moving Forward End won't just be winding the Infinity Saga but the story of its characters, thereby giving closure to many much-loved in the hearts of millions. Steve Rogers, having completed his mission as Captain America, returns to the timeline for the life he never got to have with Peggy Carter. This leaves him to eventually resurface in the current timeline and bestow the shield upon Sam Wilson, Falcon, which ushers in a new phase for the Captain America mantle. Thor frees himself of the weight of his responsibilities and finds himself transported to the Guardians of the Galaxy, where he gets swept up in the excitement and camaraderie he's been missing. Bruce Banner finds his home in his new guise as "Professor Hulk," probably dedicating the rest of eternity to furthering his scientific research. But it's Clint and Wanda for whom we'll be left with perhaps the strongest sense of loss. Clint goes home to his family, but it hangs over him like a ton of feathers that he bears, along with Natasha's sacrifice. Wanda is brought back to life but grieves with passion for her Vision, the love of her life, whose death in Infinity War no one could reverse. A Tale of End, But a Legacy Lives On Avengers: End is so much more than just the end to an 22-film arc-it is a love letter to the fan and a testament to the power of storytelling. Not many films have achieved as much balance of disparate characters and storylines, then also were able to deliver deep emotional beats and jaw-dropping action sequences. Avengers: End was certainly a celebration of heroism, friendship, sacrifice, and hope. At its core, the film Endgame is one of redemption-the coming together of hope even in the darkest of times. It poses great questions regarding failure and loss, but what a hero is can be left better to interpretation. Still, at its core, it ends one in a sense of calm knowing that even though those favorite heroes have been lost, their legacy lives on. For the fans, Endgame was about emotional closure, but for the MCU, it was a bold declaration, saying that this chapter has ended but the universe certainly hasn't.
