This competition is seeking a novel, 1U CubeSat design. Participants are competing for launch cost funding, and their proposals are evaluated based on novelty, proven technical and nontechnical capability, team demographics, and the team mentors. Team GlowSat is part of the Purdue SEDS team and is one of the participants in the competition.
Dr. Alina Alexeenko is an Aeronautics and Astronautics professor at Purdue University. She has developed computational algorithms for the solution of rarefied flow problems and a Film-evaporated MEMS Tunable Array (FEMTA) for producing microNewton thrusts. Her current research focuses are computational rarefied gas dynamics, vacuum gas dynamics, direct simulation Monte Carlo techniques, microscale gas flows, coupled thermal-fluid analysis of microdevices, and high-altitude aerothermodynamics.
Dr. David Spencer is an associate professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University and the director of the Purdue Space Flight Projects Laboratory. He served on the mission design and navigation team for the TOPEX/Poseidon mission and was the lead mission designer for Mars Pathfinder mission. His research interests include mission design, spacecraft relative motion, aeroassist technologies, mission operations, and small satellite applications.
Dr. Matthew Swabey is the Director of Purdue University's Bechtel Innovation Design Center. He provides leadership, training and education for students working on projects in the facility and oversees operations of the facility. Previously, he managed the large scale educational laboratory infrastructure of Purdue's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His specialties include Digital CMOS, advanced simulations and mixed signal SoCs.
