OUR STORY
This is not a factory product. This is a village heritage.Where It Grows:
In the vast peat swamps of Amuntai and Tabalong, South Kalimantan, grows Purun - a wild grass that has been part of Banjar life for generations. We harvest it sustainably, ensuring the swamp ecosystem remains protected.Who Makes It:
I am not the weaver. I am a local trader from Balangan who partners with supplier groups across Amuntai and Tabalong. Behind every bag are dozens of mothers, artisans who weave from their homes between caring for their families. No machines, only hands.
The tradition of weaving purun in the Amuntai (North Hulu Sungai) and Tabalong regions is estimated to have existed since the era of ancient kingdoms (hundreds of years ago) or during the time of the first settlers in the southern part of Kalimantan. This skill was born from the cultural interactions of ancient communities inhabiting the banks of the Tabalong River, precisely dating back to the eras of the Kuripan Kingdom, Negara Dipa, and Negara Daha. The ancestors of the Banjar people utilized this hollow plant to make simple household utensils, especially mats (for sitting or sleeping) and market baskets.
When you order from Glory Borneo, you don't just buy a bag. You create fair income for these women artisans and keep a dying craft alive.Glory Borneo is a bridge - connecting the hands of Kalimantan to the world.
Our Social Commitment We believe that sustainable business should uplift the communities behind it. 10% of our net profits are dedicated to supporting local community empowerment, education, underprivileged families, orphans, as well as local social and religious welfare programs.
