"Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind." Seneca
I have been in education my entire life. From being a student as a child, adolescent, adult and teacher. Currently I am now an administrator and consider myself a life-long learner always appreciating every learning opportunity. 4 years of my teaching experience was spent in Lima and Cajamarca Peru, South America. Below are some pictures of my time spent in Peru.
Teaching at Davy College and volunteering at Hogar De Cristo, Cajamarca, Peru.
My experiences of teaching and living in a foreign country are invaluable and have changed my life.
I had been teaching in Toronto Catholic District School Board for 4 years and had felt I needed to expand my skills as an educator about curriculum, classroom management and advocating for students to reach their full potential. I felt there was more I could do to challenge myself and decided I would so by leaving the comfort of Toronto, the city where I was born and raised, and attended school and ventured off to Peru. I taught Primary Years Program in an IB school in Lima, Markham College, and then secondary school in an IB school in Cajamarca, Davy College.
The experience of being in a foreign country and learning about a new culture is one which challenges us to deeply reflect on the person we are and who we want to become. It also asks us to think about if we are truly living the authentic life we want or what society has asked of us? These life changing questions are what holistic learning will entail.
Below are some videos which share these same ideas and reflect on Holistic education.

In this TED Ed Talk, Rolf Winters believes there is a movement happening where we are moving from 'Old World' beliefs to 'New World' beliefs.
