Today we’re about to finish Unit 1 from this course on “Lengua and Cultura IV”. Undoubtedly, this first unit will be memorable for all of us since we implemented on-line/virtual resources instead of the traditional (and necessary?) in-person lessons. However, I do believe that everything happens for a reason (although it’s a cliché, it’s so true these days). The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world has made everyone think of what we have been doing lately: if what we thought to be effective, right, useful, safe, comfortable was worthy or not.
Time and history will tell. For the time being, the best we can do is to keep on focusing on our affections, our goals, our dreams and our health! And last, but not the least, on our marvellous trip to the early Middle Age in England (from 1066 to 1216).
Thanks to historians, archeologists and anthropologists, it is possible to have a rough idea of what life was like back then.
Here’s my selection of images, texts and videos that will surely help you recreate day-to-day life in England.
From the wonderful collections by Dorling Kindersley, you’ll be able to see what a medieval street and a city were like; also, two decisive moments in history: The Domesday Book and The Magna Carta.
From Timelines.tv (BAFTA award-winning educational resource): the interesting videos on Medieval Manor, Medieval Minds and Medieval Times.
From Simple History, (a YouTube animated educational history videos channel): How clean were medieval?, Medieval Punishments, Medieval Taverns and the Medieval Knight.
