Global Education Guide

West African and American Connections

Randy Martin, NBCT

We must move from teaching nationalism to teaching globalism in our classrooms. If we do not make this move, we are not only doing our students a disservice, but are moving dangerously backwards to a time when conflict and cold war was imminent.

This website was built as is maintained by Randy Martin, NBCT. Randy teaches history at Desert Ridge Middle School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is a fellow of the Teachers for Global Classrooms (Fulbright) program, which works with the US Department of State to promote global education and global peace. Randy was sent to the village of Diass, Senegal (West Africa) to teach and learn in Senegalese classrooms for his field experience. The contents of this website serve as the culmination of what he learned during the program, and exists for the purpose of promoting the goals of the Teachers for Global Classrooms program, as well as Randy's personal mission to discover the many connections that Senegal and the United States share, especially in the realms of music, and the banjo in particular.
