Here's a link to the undergraduate academic calendar. Make sure to keep up with and note these days so you don't miss any important deadlines
Here's some quick need to knows to help you out in your first few weeks, get you used to uni life and to keep yourself out of trouble.
Your Suite is technically a public space! As much as this space is your home certain staff will be entering from time to time, like the custodial staff as well as the RAs on call during the night. So if you see them make sure to say hi!
O-Week is Dry! Meaning no Alcohol or Cannabis allowed on campus. This also means being under the influence of them as well.
Attend the community meeting Sept 4th 5:30pm! This meeting with your community has more important about transitioning into student life, your residence, o-week and more.
No Guests During O-Week! During O-Week we don't allow any guests on campus. Currently we are in stage 2 of our Covid-policy which is soon to change. However, this means that for the time being you are only allowed one on campus guest after O-week.
We Have Quiet Hours! During O-Week quiet hours are Sun-Tues from 1AM -8AM, Wed & Thurs from 11 PM – 8 AM and Fri & Sat from 1 AM – 8 AM.
Independence! In the suites in Glengarry make sure to take out your trash and clean your dishes, since the custodial staff are not in charge of doing this for you.
During O-week we don't allow any consumption, possession or influence of alcohol or cannabis on campus and residence. However, if of age and done so in a safe manner and following our rules it is allowed. The East Residence is a special case where drinking while abiding by the campus alcohol and cannabis consumption rules is allowed in the living space in residences like the suites, unlike other residence buildings.
To start let's look at some of the rules around alcohol which isn't allowed to get a better understanding of what is allowed.
No Beer Bottles or anything else along those lines with that kind of bottle, including; lager, malt liquor, ale for example
No Large Volume Containers
No Drinking Accessories this includes but not limited to; funnels, drinking hats, kegs and Are Subject To Confiscation
No Parties in Residence
No Open Alcohol including public areas on campus like lounges
Now let's see what's generally expected when drinking alcohol on campus
You're expected to stay cleanly, meaning pick up and dispose of cans and other containers
You're expected to be of age
To stay away from games and other activities encouraging drinking high volumes at a time
To stay away from Irresponsible or high-risk behaviour
Keep your drinks in a sealed and closed container
Like alcohol, to use cannabis on campus you must be of legal age in Ontario (19+), UofG is also a smoke-free campus meaning you must exit campus to smoke. O-Week is still a dry period meaning being under the influence, in possession of, or consuming weed is prohibited
Students of Legal Age can be in possession of 30 grams or less of dried cannabis or the equivalent in edibles or oils in their rooms
Can I Consume Weed? After O-week students of age can roll a joint and take edibles in their rooms if they're not impacting the students around them
Smell? If the smell is strong and impacts others, then RLS may have to become involved, make sure to keep in air-tight containers and keep the room ventilated
Public Use? You cannot use cannabis in public spaces on campus and you may be asked to dispose of it by RLS
No Growing or Infusing cannabis into things (i.e. pot brownies or drinks) and having cannabis seeds or plants
No Trafficking or selling this includes the items which lead those to believe you are selling (i.e. scales, small baggies, large quantities)
Keep Closed or Sealed in Package or Container.
Move-in is a super busy, sometimes stressful and emotional time for everyone. To make move-in as smooth as possible, make sure you're fully prepared to not be caught off guard and to eliminate any possible problems during your move-in time.
Know Your Move-in Time! Check your student email and StarRez to check the day and time of your move-in. Don't love your time or day? Check availability for other possible move-in slots for your community.
Know Where You're Moving Into! On StarRez you can see your building, room and floor, we have move-in maps to ensure you don't get lost.
Know Where to Get Your Key! Make sure you have your student ID (if you don't have it yet make sure to receive it in the UC before getting your key) to show the desk and so they can give your card access to the scanner at your tower. In Glengarry, you will go to the front desk at the Dundas entrance.
Only Pack What You Need! To ensure a fast and easy move-in, only pack what you need and pack things efficiently to get everything done in minimal trips on the elevator.
Know What You're Allowed to Have! It really sucks to have your stuff confiscated, make sure you see the move-in guide or any other rules to ensure you're not bringing anything that isn't allowed on campus.
Check the Parking Guide! To avoid blocking others trying to move in please look for the parking guides to see where you can park to best allow others to move in as well.
Lost your keys? Get a spare temporarily at the front desk which you must return within 3 hours. There are 3 times you can do this for free before you are charged a $5 fee every time afterwards.
Broken or Suite Problems? Send in a work order to the front desk
Sign in Guests! Make sure to sign in your guests after O-Week to ensure you're following residence rules
Pick up mail or parcels
Special Rooms? You can sign out and book rooms like the music room or the fireplace lounge
