The Library of the Government Law College, Ernakulam is the oldest of the libraries in the legal education institutions in the State.
Spatial Profile
The spatial profile of Library reflects an aggregate space of close to 20,000 sq. feet and a reading space in excess of 7000 sq. feet distributed in two floors. The ground floor is differently abled friendly. The reading space which is an appendage of the library and the reprographic facility in the ground floor add to the value added library enabled services.
Collection and Taxonomy of Books
The library in different categories have an aggregate collection in excess of 53, 000 books. The collection of the books include the categories of Law Books and Non-Law Books which include Language books. From the user point of view the broad categories include, Student Edition, and Reference books, both foreign and Indian publications. The Reference Book include the Law Reports, Law Journals, foreign and Indian, besides Treatises and classic book collection. The periodicals and newspapers are also included as valuable additions to the reading resources. A separate collection of malayalam general books purchased and donated from MP's Fund, the College Union and those Gifted by foundation in memory of student who passed away and those gifted by well- wishers also add to the corpus of collection of reading resources of the library.
E Resources
The library provides a substantial Eresources in the form of storage and online resources of prominent service providers. The international and national segments through MyLOFT include SCC online, Hein online, Manupatra, CDJ Law Online, LiveLaw.in, EBC Reader, ONOS from INFLIBNET etc. Efforts are on to create an E-library section to widen the net of remote access learning.
Technological Acquisition in Library services
Library is fully automated and the software used for the library services is KOHA. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been installed in the library to scale up the quality of the library services and also for security of the resources in the library. The library is also placed under CCTV surveillance. Besides having the LAN facility the library is WIFI enabled.
Library Services
The Library caters to undergraduate courses, post graduate courses and research scholars in the Research Centre on the college. The Reference and Lending sections caters to the reference purposes and issue and return of the books loaned respectively. The reprographic service delivery works as an adjunct library service. A reading room adjacent to the library caters to the better utilization of library services. The Cyber Station in the administrative block of the college with 15 work stations and reprographic facility is an adjunct facility of the library and provides value added services for knowledge acquisition to the students.
