Ganesh Bhat, was born to Shri Lakshminarayana Bhat and Mankali Bhat in Idagunji, Uttara Kannada District, Karnataka. Shri Lakshminarayana Bhat was the chief priest at the Idagunji Ganapathi temple. 

Developing an interest in sculpting at an early age, Ganesh Bhat learnt sculpting in the Gurukula method between 1980-92 from Shri K.G. Shantappa Gudigar, and subsequently from National Award winner Shri D. Vadiraj. 

Between 1986-95, he also studied Shilpa shastra under Shri S.K. Ramachandra Rao. 

Shri Ganesh Bhat is trained in wood and stone sculpting.
