This workshop aims to bring together researchers and students to discuss topics related to the embedding of surfaces in 4-manifolds. Examples of such topics include:
comparing and contrasting equivalence relations on surfaces in 4-manifolds;
the isotopy classification of surfaces;
the sliceness of 2-links (does every 2-link in the 4-sphere bound a disjoint collection of embedded 3-balls in the 5-ball);
and more!
The primary objective of the workshop is to introduce PhD students and early career researchers to this exciting and rapidly evolving field. The workshop is intended to be accessible to advanced master's students and PhD students.
The deadline to apply for funding is the 15th September 2026.
