The Gizmo Procalyzer provides a simple, quick interface for analyzing complex Stored Procedures. The whole suite of tools is integrated under the so-called Gizmo Central, which covers five feature-rich applications. When you are on campus (or off campus connected via virtual private network) you can map a drive to a university hosted resource, and your computer treats it like any other drive. This means that you can save, delete, copy and move files between your computer and university hosted resources, such as MyDocs, the Microsoft IIS server or Gizmo account file space.

To map a drive, enter the path to the server or network share. Some common paths to resources on the university network are listed below. Follow these instructions for connecting with Windows and Mac.

To gain access to the extruding male USB, simply pull off it's protective cap. I preferably like to use portable flash drive sticks that incorporate the mechanical flick and pop up style but this method is okay. Once open you can plug the stick into anything which accepts a USB flash drive and you're away. I found that the USB stick instantly appeared on my desktop and had very quick transfer speeds. I felt as if it was performing to the maximum of what USB 2.0 technologies can do. A 1GB file took around 1 minute to transfer and that is very quick compared to many other flash memory sticks on the market and in my draw. And taking files off seemed to be just as quick. Gizmo Drive can create virtual hard drive images, ISO images from disc and virtual hard drives that reside in RAM and act as a RAM drive. The virtual hard drives can be compressed and encrypted for additional security.

The drive mounting software has a surprisingly low resource usage when minimized in the Windows System Tray with less than four Megabytes of computer memory total. Make sure you only check the GDrive option during setup unless you want to install other programs as well.

Gizmo Drive is a powerful disc mounting software program for Windows that supports other features, such as the ability to create virtual hard drives in RAM on top of that. Its resource usage is low, and functionality immense.

Once you find the Google Drive gizmo, clickonce on the gizmo to "pick it up." There is no need to clickand drag the gizmo; clicking on it once will "pick it up." After you have picked up the gizmo, you can placeit in any of the green outlined editable areas on the portfoliopage. Move your cursor to where you would like the documentto be placed and click again to "put it down".

There is nothing quite as satisfying as knowing that the CD-RW has finally been replaced as the most convenient way to store and transfer ~500MB worth of data and files. Okay, a CD-RW holds a little more than that, 650MB to be specific, but that isn't the point. Nowadays, we have solid state, nearly indestructible USB flash memory devices that fit neatly on your key chain between the home and car keys. Rather remarkable if you think about it, and to get back at your data requires only a PC with USB port. Since USB ports are included on all modern computers, that makes the USB flashdrive about as universal as the floppy disk it long ago replaced. With the proliferation of WindowsXP, plugging a device like the 512MB Crucial Gizmo 2.0 into a system doesn't even require drivers - everything is automatic, and after a few seconds up pops a new hard drive. So long as your PC is running Windows2000 or higher, drivers aren't required to configure USB devices.

The Crucial Gizmo 2.0 flash disk we will be looking at in this quick review is 512MB in size, and communicates at USB2.0 speeds. There are also 64MB, 128MB and 256MB versions available, but at $89USD the 512MB version (equivalent to 350 floppy disks) is a pretty good deal. It measures a scant 16 x 67.5 x 8mm, and has a tiny little green LED to indicate activity. The Gizmo 2.0 flash drive is small enough that two can be installed into adjacent USB ports without encountering any space issues.

A big problem with a lot of first generation USB flash drives was their size - many were too large to plug directly into a USB slot if there was a USB mouse, or USB cable connected to the adjacent port. Since manufacturers almost always install USB ports in pairs, this effectively limited where you could plug a small USB flash drive in.

On laptops, this problem could be extremely aggravating. This is why many USB flash drives were, and continue to be shipped with USB extension cables. Now, who really wants to carry around an extension cable so they can use the USB flash drive dangling off their key ring? No one I'd wager, which is why we're quite pleased with the size reduction the Gizmo 2.0 takes over the first Gizmo model released by Crucial (shown above in white).

On Sunday April 23rd we headed off for an adventure that came highly recommended by locals at our campground. We were talking about our adventures at Watkins Glen State Park in NY and they recommended Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania. It would mean a 2 hour (100 mile) each way drive from our campground in Hersey, PA but we are always up for a good road trip adventure. What I consider to be two of the most important factors when choosing drive imaging software is Ease of Use, and Reliable Image Creation and Restoration. Quite simply the software has to be able to do its intended task without fail every time as if it can not then it defeats the whole objective of creating an image backup in the first place and believe it or not there is software out there that is great at performing the actual backup images and providing the ability to mount and explore them without problems, but lacking in any easy way to actually perform a recovery with said images. If the software is capable of reliably performing those tasks in a timely manor then all the better, if not then personally I have no problems with waiting a while longer and knowing for a fact that the backup or recovery process is going to be a success.

For example a user can safely recover their computer from a system crash or a bad virus infection without having to worry about reformatting and reinstalling the operating system. With drive imaging there is almost no reason at all to have to reinstall Windows because it offers you the ability to restore an image to your hard drive in a fraction of the time it takes to reinstall your operating system along with all your programs and settings. ff782bc1db
