This Privacy Policy explains how Givis (“we” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use our giveaway platform. We comply with Google Play’s requirements and international privacy laws, meaning we clearly inform users what data is collected, why we collect it, how it is used, and with whom it may be shared. By installing or using the app, you agree to the terms of this policy.
Information We Collect
We collect only the personal information needed to operate the contest platform and communicate with you. Specifically:
Account information: When you register, we collect your name and email address. These are used to create your account and contact you (for example, to notify winners). (Regulators classify name and contact info as personal data.)
Location data: If you grant permission, we collect your geographic location (city or region). We use location to filter contests by region and enforce location-based eligibility. We disclose this usage clearly and obtain consent, in line with best practices for location data.
Participation and profile data: You may optionally provide additional profile information (age, gender, etc.) to enter giveaways. We use this for demographics and analytics (aggregated, non-identifying) to improve the service.
Device/Usage data: We automatically collect technical data (such as IP address, device model, and app usage logs) to maintain and improve the app. This helps us monitor participation rates and app performance. We do not collect sensitive data (like photos, audio, contacts, or financial details) beyond what is listed. Note that name, email, and location are all “personal information” under privacy regulations.
Payment information: For in-app subscriptions or purchases, we use Google Play’s billing system. We do not collect or store your payment details (credit card or bank info) – Google handles those securely under its own privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
We use the data we collect only to provide and improve the Givis service and to communicate with you:
Service provision: Your name and email enable account creation, password resets, and winner notifications. Location data lets us show you relevant local contests and verify eligibility (for example, some campaigns are restricted to certain regions).
Communication: We may send you administrative emails about your account or contests you’ve entered (e.g. winner announcements). With your consent, we may also send occasional promotional messages or updates about new giveaways.
Analytics: We use aggregated data (like participation counts or demographic breakdowns) to monitor and improve campaigns. For example, we analyze how many users enter contests or how often each prize tier is won. Any analytics data is used internally and is kept anonymous; it cannot identify you personally.
Safety and fraud prevention: We use basic data (like account ID or email) to detect and prevent abuse or fraud. For instance, limiting duplicate entries or flagging suspicious activity.
Legal compliance: We may use or retain information as needed to comply with laws and regulations, or to enforce our terms.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell or rent your personal information to marketers. We share data only as needed to operate the app:
Service providers: We use third-party services (notably Firebase by Google) to host and process your data. Google acts as a data processor under our instructions. These providers have strict contracts and security measures to protect your data. When data is shared with these services (e.g. cloud storage, authentication), we explain how and why as required by Google Play.
Analytics and Subprocessors: If you opt in, we may use tools (e.g. Google Analytics) to measure app usage. Any such tools follow their own privacy rules and only receive the data necessary for their function (usually aggregated or pseudonymous). We do not share identifying personal data with advertisers.
Legal requests: We may disclose personal data if required by law (such as a court order) or to protect the rights and safety of Givis or others (for example, to prevent fraud or investigate a complaint).
In all cases, we limit data sharing to the minimum needed. You can rest assured that we comply with Google’s transparency requirements: apps must disclose any sharing of user data and the reasons for it.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security to protect your information. All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS (as recommended by Google’s guidelines). User data is stored on secure Google Cloud/Firebase servers that comply with ISO and SOC certifications. Access to your personal data is limited to authorized staff. However, no system is 100% secure; while we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your personal data only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information and associated data from our servers. In accordance with Google Play’s account deletion requirement, Givis provides an easy way for users to delete their account (and all associated data). Specifically, you can delete your account in the app settings or by contacting us; we will promptly delete the data (e.g. name, email, location, contest entries) when you request it. Certain non-identifying information (like aggregated statistics) may remain, but your personal identifiers are purged. We also comply with any local laws on data retention (for example, retaining data needed for legal compliance or financial record-keeping for a limited time).
Children’s Privacy
Givis is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. Users must confirm they are at least 18 years old during registration. If we learn that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will promptly delete that data. (As an example of this best practice, Calendly’s privacy notice similarly states: “we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under 18. If we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with Personal Data, we will promptly delete such Personal Data”.) Because of this age restriction, we do not implement COPPA (which applies to under-13) explicitly, but we uphold the spirit of these protections by barring minors altogether.
Your Rights and Controls
You have choices about your data:
Access/Correction: You may review or update your profile information (name, email, etc.) in the app settings. You can also contact us to obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Deletion: As noted, you can delete your account at any time, which removes your personal data from our records.
Communications: You can opt out of promotional emails by following the unsubscribe link in any email or in your account settings. (Service-related emails like contest notifications cannot be opted-out unless you delete your account, since they are necessary for the service.)
These measures comply with data protection laws (like the EU’s GDPR or California’s CCPA) which grant rights to access, rectify, or erase personal data.
International Users and GDPR/CCPA
Givis is available globally. We adhere to international privacy standards: for EU users, we comply with GDPR requirements (providing transparency and user rights); for California users, we respect CCPA/CPRA rights. Your data may be transferred and stored on servers outside your country (e.g. Google Cloud locations), but we ensure adequate protections (such as Google’s Privacy Shield/DPF adherence). By using our app, you consent to this data transfer and processing.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The latest version will always be posted in the app and on our website. We will notify you of significant changes (for example, by email or app notice) before they take effect.
