The Pannala Divisional Secretariat Division is situated on the southwestern border of the Kurunegala District in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. This division serves as a significant administrative area within the district. The electoral division is named Katugampala, and it spans a total area of 284 square kilometers. The local government unit is identified as the Pannala Provincial Council.
The division comprises three sub-districts: Hamangalla, Yakwila, and Makandura. Additionally, it is divided into three koralas: East Korala, West Korala, and Pitigal Korala. There are also three agricultural service centers located within the division: Hamangalla, Yakwila, and Wellapalla.
The population is primarily concentrated in the main urban areas, with the majority being Sinhala Buddhists. There are also smaller communities of Tamils and Burghers. In terms of religious demographics, Buddhists form the majority, while smaller numbers of people identify with Islam, Hinduism, and Catholicism.
The Giriulla-Panala-Kadnagara region includes four main police stations: the Panala Police Station, which oversees 37 Grama Niladhari wards; the Giriulla Police Station, which manages 24 wards; the Kadnagara Police Station, which covers 17 wards; and the Arapola Police Station, which handles 9 wards.
Kuliyapitiya was established as a separate sub-office from the Divisional Secretariat Division, initially comprising 22 Grama Niladhari divisions. In 1976, it transitioned to a sub-divisional office, and by 1990, it had become a fully-fledged Divisional Secretariat, encompassing 87 Grama Niladhari divisions.
