Fall 2019 - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
Robert Louis Stevenson is known for his fiction and travel books. His most famous work of horror is "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". It has supernatural elements and deals with the moral struggle between being good and being bad. The mystery in each story is gradually revealed through the conflict between conscience and instinct.
Are scientists obligated to be "good"? Are knowledge and curiosity more important than morality? This book introduces these concepts by introducing the scientist, Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll becomes curious about human nature, specifically the idea of good versus evil. As a result of his research and experiments, strange things starts happening. His good friend, Mr. Utterson, comes to investigate and is shocked by what he finds.
