Privacy Policy
GIST is made by Steppe Summit Studio. Effective July 2026.
GIST is built to be private and on-device first. There is no account, no sign-in, no cloud sync, and no GIST server that stores your content.
What stays on your device
Recording, transcription, OCR, PDF text extraction, search, folders, tags, to-dos, and all of your notes are processed and stored only on your device.
What leaves your device
Only when you choose an AI action, such as summarizing a note, asking a question about your notes, or using Study Mode, is the relevant note text sent over an encrypted connection to our third-party AI provider, Anthropic, so it can generate that result. Under Anthropic's API terms, this text is not used to train AI models, and GIST does not store it on any server. AI features require an internet connection. Capturing, transcribing, and organizing your notes work fully offline.
What we do not collect
- No user accounts
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No third-party analytics or tracking software
- We do not sell or share your personal data, and we have no way to read your notes
Data retention and your control
Your content stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete any note at any time. The reset option in Settings permanently erases all local data, and uninstalling the app removes everything.
Children
GIST is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here and shown inside the app.
