Heart Words are special words we learn to read and spell. The heart shows the part we have to know by heart because we cannot sound it out. 

❤️ Heart = must be remembered by heart (can’t sound out)

🔷 Blue box = can sound out (newer or less familiar)

💚 Green box = can sound out (already learned)

💛 Yellow Box – This part hasn’t been taught yet, so we just learn it for now and don’t worry about sounding it out.
