STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. This field is growing rapidly and is necessary for our everyday lives
Women in STEM
Women in STEM face barriers during their education and in the workforce. Men outnumber women in STEM jobs and STEM majors. During college, women in STEM fields often face different treatment than their male classmates. Due to factors like unconscious bias, many women interested in STEM majors don't go on to pursue STEM careers.

Along with the underrepresentation of women in the STEM field, there is a major pay gap between men and women. Women typically earn less than men in the STEM field. In 2019, men in STEM reported a median salary of $90,000, while women in STEM earned $66,200. Workplaces feel that men can do the job better than women and as a result pay them a higher salary, when in reality, women can do the job just as good and most of the time even better!

Often times, young girls aren't aware about the many career opportunities in the STEM field due to lack of resources and don't feel inspired to pursue a career in STEM. They choose other careers instead, causing the amount of women in the STEM field to be severely low. My mission for this project is to educate young girls about the career opportunities within the STEM field and provide resources for them. More women need to be represented in the STEM field and I plan to present Google Slide presentations at local schools and a website addressing this issue so the next generation of girls can make an impact. My goal for this project is to inspire young girls to pursue a career in STEM and break the gender gap!

About Me
About Me
Hello, my name is Lindsey Prieto! I am a 17 years old from South Gate, California. I am a Girl Scout Ambassador on the road to getting my Girl Scout Gold Award. During middle school I found my passion for STEM and more specifically Engineering. I aspire to attend a four year university and later become a Civil Engineer. I decided to take this passion with me and do something bigger. I want to share my knowledge with young girls about STEM and encourage them to pursue a career in STEM as the field is currently unrepresented by women. I hope that my project has an impact on girls in my community and around the world so that they realize that Girls Belong in STEM!!
